Maybe it was Ferrari upset that Rubens out raced Michael!

The only trophy he ever got without one of the following things happening:
Michael letting him win. Michael pretending to do a photo-finish. Or money-shot as Martin brundle rather worryingly calls it..... Everyone crashing out as a freak bout of drizzle hits the track. A man running up the.........oh no, that did happen. His only genuine win and they break his trophy!?! Grrrr.... |

I'd call his win at Germany a few years ago genuine! He didn't exactly spin off did he? And the tactics were great, and he drove well. But Britain was probably the best drive of his life maybe, so that trophy would have meant a lot to him as well.

Don't get me wrong, germany was a good drive. BUT the McLarens were running away with it until a man wandered onto the track, bringing out the safety car. They still were until the second safety car due to Alesi and Dinizs altercation.
Well done in Britain though Rubey!!! |

Well that'd be 3 genuine wins if it wasn't for stupid Ferrari at stupid Austria last year. Anyway...
http://globalf1.net/seasons/2000/race11.stm Thats the link for the final standings for Hockenheim 2000 which Rubens won. Only a 7.5 second margin, but didn't he stay on dry tyres in a massive gamble to win? Yes! He did! So he deserved it. Oh... Genuine win? Any win is "genuine". You look down the record books over the years and you'll find many GP victories which had something about them which some people might say detract from the "genuineness" of the win. The guy deserved what he got.

Hang on - the Austria GP last year where Rubens moved over, is that genuine? And what about when DC moved over for Mika in 1998 at Melbourne? Those days are a memory now I hope and I'm sure everyone else does as well.

Too right Tom - what about the "genuine wins" Rubens has had to pass up because he's been told to let Michael thru?
Apparently, someone knocked his trophy while he was checking in at Heathrow and it fell on the floor and broke. Probably some disgruntled BA passenger who's been there since Friday... Last edited by garcon; 22 Jul 2003 at 19:53. |

His decision to stay out on slick tyres was brave, and ultimately the right choice. And Button drove a pearler that day, hounding DC at the end. Move over grandad! |

Its written on the page. Go and find a faster lap than that in that race and I'll change my mind. In my eye, he deserved victory.
Anyway - Rubens for a 2nd victory in a row? I think so! It certainly launched Ralf, and Kimi (at Brazil - except it was luckily awarded to Giancarlo who it doesn't seem to have boosted.) |

In a word, yes. What does "genuine" mean anyway? I'm no fan of some of the tactics that have been employed over the last few years, but a win is still a win. I may not like it, but.... |

i have to say that if i had been given that trophy, i may have been tempted to drop it, it was hideous. he'd be better off getting the video of the race and having his name engraved on it.

As long as he doesn't expect the BRDC to pay for the replacement - I think they've got enough to worry about - I'm a little bit disappointed - one would think that they would try to look after them a bit more carefully - I would think that it would take quite a lot to break that one as well!!
Sorry Rubens - the amount you earn - you broke it - you buy another one ! |

Hey notice something both of Rubens's greatest drives were interupted by a man wondering on the track !! Something for Rubens to look forward too!
Make no mistake both were good drives |

Has TGF ever had a teammate whose promising career wasn't trashed by having driven with him? This is a serious question. I have been trying to think of one and have not yet come up with anyone who has seriously said they enjoyed the boost driving with him has given to his career.

Another way you could look at it is would Rubens have won any races had he not moved to Ferrari? I don't know... depends what's important I guess...
