Chris Hobson should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2012 British GP volunteering

Before the deluge starts......................................

I have asked the MSA when the volunteering forms will be available. They hope within the next two weeks (i.e. by early October). You will need to return them to the MSA by the end of November.

As soon as I receive them I will post a notice here and we will put the BMMC ones on our website togther with a more detailed timetable for responses..

As usual you need to volunteer through your main organising club - they should receive the forms at the same time as myself.

Any queries please ask (said he opening the floodgates again!)

Hi Chris,

I am sure I will be one of many to have a question or two, I upgraded in July and Have not yet received anything back from the MSA so would I still be able to apply ?

Also is the 12 events after the upgrade or throughout this year ?

Many Thanks

Rich

The link to last years thread is here http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...h+volunteering

Might be some useful info on there including details of permit types of various meetings.

The 12 sigs are for over the calendar year.

Apply for the GP - we should have your upgrade through well in time

Remember you can only apply for a role that you have a valid registration for.
You cannot just say "I want to be in the pit lane" unless you have a specialist grade.

Apply for the one you've done the most days in. There's no point in asking to do, say, flags if you've done (or will do) less than 12 days when you've got enough in something else.

I put in for flags, 'cus that's what I'm best at (despite failing to notice Mr Kobayashi's little off on the Friday this year ), and 'cus incident seems to be more over-subscribed.

I'm guessing that the GP is 13th - 15th July as the Silverstone website are still showing 6th - 8th July.

Chris, I'm presuming this is an event for which you're regularly oversubscribed! Problem is for us that until early next year, we can't guarantee availability and I'd hate to apply, (hypothetically) get selected over someone else, and then have to pull out. Unfair to everyone.

If we didn't put in an application until early next year, would that mean we'd be out of the running completely for consideration?

I am afraid all volunteers have to be in by the dealine of end november - the selection meeting is then held early in the new year.

If you want to volunteer, then please do so - the MSA always holds a reserve list in case of any no-shows.

Terri, as Chris said, put in your application. A lot of people do not fully know their personal commitments for something that is happening in 10 months time. If you get selected then drop me an email / text so we can arrange to have a camping slot near to each other.

It was on the first draft of the calender the week later. it got moved a week earlier when it got changed. which was good for me coz the original date overlapped with the week in which i hope to graduate.

happens year after year, the big meetings clash which for the multibillion sometimes business there must be some reason why they cant anticipate when to book the circuits for, say if f1 submits there's first if that's how it works, ive booked half my meetings for next year already with only a 8-10 weeks left for national and club meetings, which will include btcc at brands and scottish legends at cadwell! i can expect half of those meetings to be reschedueled, i can see the dates for something like both goodwoods being changed even if it does stick to first week of july again for the f.o.s

Chris, is the 12 days marshalling (In the previous season) strictly adhered to?
I ask because over the last 3 years or so my marshalling activities have been somewhat restricted due to family illnesses and work committments. I am available for the dates of the 2012 BGP and just wondered if mitigating circumstances would be considered?
Thanks

I missed a lot of meetings in 2010 due to illness & only did 13 days all season. Unfortunately, these were a mix of incident & flag so I didn't have 12 days in any particular duty. I included a covering letter with my application but was unsuccessful.

a lot of people are unsuccesful even when they have 40 days flagging! good you tried 13 days is still anywhere from 7-13 weekends (inc single day meets) which is still a lot, presume you are back up to the amount you want to do? hope you get '12

You will need the full 12 sigs in the discipline for which you are volunteering - if you have fewer than that I have to send your form in separately and you will only be considered if they are short of volunteers in your discipline.

Sorry

PS I'm not even applying no point
