Skoda: BTCC - Silly Idea?
With all this speculation about Alfa and BMW returning to the BTCC in the future, what do you lot think about the idea of Skoda entering the Championship?
I only think this because what with the reasent build up of good PR for Skoda in the UK over the years and their step up in motorsport activity (ETCC & WRC), maybe the time is comming when they would contemplate joining the BTCC. Before anyone says anything this is just an idea pulled out of my head and is not fact nor rummor. All opinions are welcome. |

Well it could happen after all they are racing in the ETCC this year, if VAG put some money into it could happen.
If I where them I would go for it and it would be nice to see another manufactor in the BTCC........ |

There was a rumour banded around the forums at the end of last season about Skoda - some people seemed quite certain they'd appear..

It would be nice to see another new name in the series. Would also help to improve Skoda's image in the UK if they were to be successful

I would have thought Skoda would be concentrating only on the ETCC for 2004 at least. And have you seen that paint job?!!

I think if VAG wanted to enter they'd do so with the SEAT brand.

it would be very nice to see any new manufacterer in the btcc, the octavia would look very nice in touring car form.. i dont think that they will be interested though. the championship is not what it once was. therefore teams dont seem to be so interested, what the people in charge need to do is try to attract some of the big boys back, ford have a very strong history in touring cars, so do bmw.

i don't think that it will boost their appeal, but it would certainly be nice to have more cars that are NOT vauxhalls in the championship.

It is not as stupid as it sounds and the doubters say. If you were to look at www.Fabiaclub.cz you will see that a very nice Skoda Fabia is already doing the cz equivlant of btcc. photo's to prove alanmoody563@msn.com

I think a works Skoda entry is unlikely until they've conquered the ETCC. The same goes for SEAT. If Alfa and BMW move some of their crack teams to the BTCC, Skoda may follow for 2005. Private entries for the Indy cup are more likely. The car isn't truly competitive yet, so there's more to be done.

Skoda could use the new BTCC regulations to develop their car where the competition won't be as intense and the whole world won't see their car if it lags behind their rivals when it comes out. Bit like the British superbikes was a test year for the new WSBK rules. Do the BTCC good ause its got more cars and Skoda good cause they get to develop their car in a competitive series before taking on the best in europe!

Any addition to the BTCC field should be welcomed, be it a new manufacturer, Alfa, BMW, Seat, Skoda, Volvo. Even extra cars currently running in the championship.
Why not extra Astra's? If they can compete with the best, I wouldn't mind. Bring on the competition I say. Oh, bye the way. It's great to be back.............. |

I think Skoda will concentrate on ETCC. To be honest I am a little bit worried about the performance of the car.

You can only do so much on a privateer's budget though can't you.
At the start of the year this team was going to be entering two cars from one of the first few rounds in for the rest of the season. Now it's one car in a race or two's time, when will the 2nd appear (if it ever does?) |
