IRL Indycar Series to race at Milwaukee

The Indy Racing League Indycar Series and Infinti Pro Series will be racing at the historic Milwaukee Mile for 2004.

"We couldn’t be happier or more excited to add the IRL IndyCar series to the 2004 schedule," said Wisconsin State Fair Park Board Chairman Martin J. Greenberg. "The IRL has really come of age in popularity both on and off the racetrack. Tony George and his entire staff have revitalized open-wheel racing in this country and beyond.

"In turn, we’ve revitalized The Milwaukee Mile as we celebrate our 100th Anniversary. We’ve had an incredible 100th season so far and to be able to cap it off with such an important addition to our schedule shows the racing community and our fans that we’re serious about bringing this great racetrack into the next century by offering the best and most exciting racing in the world."

Interesting, Down Force; obviously a question arises about that word "add"
What does that mean? Will the race be added to the 2003 track schedule, or will it replace the CART event?

TG revitalized OW racing?
he's been the cause of much strife...CART wouldve stayed healthier had there been no split and the IRL would be in dire straights had not the top teams gone over, now what do we have but a mess.
I hope the race is just an added one and CART stays on the Mile Schedule...
2 races there, one at night and one on an avo would be nice,

Well the race is supposed to take place on the same weekend as this years Michigan race, so I think they are gonna reshuffle the schedule, or drop a race. We'll just have to wait and see though.

I wish they would move it back to the week after Indy like the good old days. Since CART is finished hopefully they will do this in 2005

According to TSN.ca, the race will run on a different weekend to the CART event, and CART has exclusive rights to running at night on the Mile, so IRL will run during the afternoon.

Texas has the week after Indy. They have been drew something close to 90K thsi year. I think Milwaukee lost it's place.

Besides the IRL cannot move Milwaukee due to cobntractual considerations until CART suspends operations. That means 2005 is the soonest Milwaukee could move back to June.

The date of the IRL event at the mile has been defined: july 25th, so a completely different date.
But the question remains: will there be a CART event down there in 2004?

Even if CART carks it, would the IRL risk losing Texas as the first race after Indy?
