Need for speed underground 2

I'm surprised that no one has talked about the game yet so i think I'll make a small review.

DISCLIMER: I know that NFS is an arcade game. I know that there are more real racing games out there and I have played them and I enjoy them but from time to time I like some arcade action.

I have to say that I'be been a fan of the franchise since NFS2 (also known as Hot pursuit) and apart from the dreadful NFS Hot Pursuit 2 I've truly enjoyed the game. So I was eager to try out the new instalment but after a week or so I must say that I'm disapointed.

First I'll start off with the most annoying feature of all. The prosuct placement is a disgrace. If the game was a free game or if the brands had to do with the game (such as sponsors for racing teams, auto-related brands, etc.) then I wouldn't have a problem. But people pay money, good money for this game and when you pay you don't expect to have the logo of a mobile phone company on screen almost all of the time. Not to mention the fast food joints on every block among billboards selling shaving cream, soup and even banking services. I think people deserve a little bit more respect.

As for gameplay. Not much has changed since the last game. The free roaming city seems fun at first but then it becomes annoying when you have to drive though the entire city just to find a new race.

Graphics have not been much improved but somehow the performance penalty has been notable. I sometimes get low FPS at 1024*768 in my Athlon XP 2400+ with an ATI Radeon 9700 pro. Funny because both doom 3 and far cry seem to be able to puch higher framerates with higher details and much better graphics.

The music is less than appealing and I have to say, as a doors fan, that making a rap cover of riders on the storm should be punished with life imprisonment in solitary confinment without chance of parole.

I think it's time to dropñ the underground theme and come back the the good old racing. At the end of the day I'd rather be driving a Ferrari Enzo or a Lamborghini Murcielago than a highly modified Honda Civic.

has anyone else played the game? Opinions?

I loved the original can't wait to get this one.

certaily I prefer games such as TOCA 2, GPL, GP4 and such as I do like the realism. But sometimes I just want straightforward arcade racing and in that category I think the NFS series is the best. However, this latest installment has left me quite disappointed. Not that it's not fun to play but unlike previous versions I don't find myself eager to keep playing.

The only reason I play this game is to tune the cars, that's all.
I don't even remotely care if it has some kind of 'race' feature in it...

I just stuff in my Action Replay disc for 'bling bling' and all the parts and off I go!

If it weren't for the modifying this game would be even less impressive than it already is.

Some feat.

Each to their own I suppose.

I enjoyed it up to about 30 percent completion. It's when you realise that you've entered hundreds of races and won each and every one first time out and then it becomes extremely repetitive....

Also, the fact that the AI cars are stupid and act abnormally and also that no matter how fast your car, the AI can keep within a reasonable distance. it's bloody annoying!

having said that, I've got a lovely all carbon Skyline.

Its fun, but I found like Knowlsey said, If you remain calm and hit the apex each time you'll smoke the oposition easily.

But still a great blast. And plus i'm a racing game addict, i'll play anything. Which Is why one day i'll finish Riding Spirits II

Then why can I lap pretty much all of them in street x races?
Pwnage! xD

And I think I'll just keep my loverly pink celica with blue rims/spoilers/mirrors/windows/etc...
Heh... I'm probably the only (straight) guy who drives a pink car...

A pink car is bad. but a pink Celica?

Street X races are very easy, you're right ASCII. The opposition fall away really easily.

But the normal circuit races, although easily won, you get the sense you're dragging the computer cars with you!
