ITV's crazy coverage - again
When will ITV ever learn. Ferrari have just won the Constructor's chjampionship and they cut from the post race press conference just as the other dontributing driver to that championship - Rubens - is about to speak. And what do they show us instead - more waffle from Tony Jardine and Rosenthal.
I just don't believe them! |

ITV only have limited time after the race because they have other programmes to show, and they need to get some analysis in there. There would have been a lot of complaining if they hadn't broadcast the interview with TGF, but how bothered are the viewers about listening to Barrichello?

Snooker fans might not think F1 is a programme.

Well Ralf's - I wanted to listen to Rubens - and frankly I'm not that interested in listening to Tony Jardine pretty much repeating what Murray and Martin had already been over at length during the commentary. Also I would have been interested to see how DC was taking it all

The coverage gets worse and worse. I think Ralfs Girl is one of the many who has become either used to the poor coverage or has just forgotten what good coverage is. Last edited by Crank Case; 19 Aug 2001 at 16:36. |

ITV's highlights will probably have interviews with both of them. And you can find a copy of the Press conference on http://www.formula1.com

I remember good TV coverage, with Auntie Beeb.
Ah the good old days, TV directors with a brain, 7 + in-car cameras used reguarly, no commercial brakes... |

I remember the days when there was no TV coverage at all.
That's not to say we have to be satisfied with what we get now, Formula One is one of the world's biggest sports and the broadcast companies have a duty to bring it into our living rooms. They also have the duty to inform us as much as they can. The fact there are commercial breaks is because TV companies have to pay enormous amounts of money to Bernie c.s. and that money has to get back into their wallets one way or another. TV coverage actually is better than in the old days, it only costs a lot more money. Funny thing is however, I can't remember any TV company ever asked their viewers for more money in order to show sport coverages without commercial breaks. Ask yourself, would you be willing to pay a little extra for an integral coverage of a race? I would and as a matter of fact I'm already doing so. I have digital wich costs me 15 UK pounds/22 US dollars per month. And it's worth every cent of it. |

The real problem is that the commercial breaks always coincide with action on the track. I trust Radio 5 to see me through thosr horrid gaps in the ITV coverage

A lot of other sports would die to get the sort of coverage F1 does. Think yourselfs lucky, it is live.

Well, I am sorry about your bad TV coverage. I must say that I am lucky concering this. I can choose between the italian and the austrian TV. I usually use the austrian one, they have an incredibly complete program all over the weekend: the 2nd friday practice, the qualifying, the warm-up and the race. Before the race always at least one hour of reports, almost no publicity breaks, the whole press conference, some analysis and again at night a longer analysis with Lauda (not that I respect Lauda as an opinionist...lol)
Best regards, Julian |

Hang on, in Australia we get the ITV coverage (albeit delayed), so see get what you get, but we still saw Rubens and DC speak

Oh, and the directors for each race come from the host country, and blame Bernie for the in car shots. |

True jonboyG, but they did raise their game when they realised they were losing viewers to Eurosport. Ahh ... now those were the days: coverage of Friday and Saturday qualifying, Sunday morning warm-up, press conference after the race and John Watson as expert, getting annoyed with Allard Kalff! Yes there were ad breaks, but during the race I'd watch the BBC pictures with the Eurosport commentary running through the stereo - best of both worlds and no Jonathan bloody Palmer!

AHHH! Them were the days alright Vitesse
Having a choice that is what it's all about Eurosport coverage was really something I'm sure they showed a few of the practice sessions from Thursday and Friday as well, but the main thing you got from Eurosport was continued news and coverage not something that just happens a couple of hours every other weekend as you get with ITV. I don't know where I would be with out the Internet today. I would certainly be willing to pay for Bernie’s TV we miss so much of the action watching a single car out in front why do they do that? |

Rubens has nothing worth listening to!!!
You only have to look at how he lets Ferrari and Michael walk all over him. Why would a good driver let that happen? I have lost all respect for him. |

hakkiman, does that mean you have no respect for the other 18 drivers who also let Michael and Ferrari walk over them.
I think every guy or girl who drives a racing car at over 300 km/h for our entertainment deserves every respect they can get. |

Yes Gerard, you are right, we should always remember that also Marques is a better driver than all of us will ever be.

ITV had already wound me up well before their rubbish coverage of Sundays race.
They are showing Premiership football at 7pm on a Saturday evening. Now, many people will remember that they decided not to show Brazilian/Canadian qualifying live as viewers expected "high quality light entertainment programmes" at 6/7pm on a Saturday evening. Yet again ITV is favouring football over F1. They assume that everyone watching F1 MUST be interested in football. Again they spent a good 5 minutes promoting their football programmes and offered us F1 fans an "amazing" prize of a trip to a football match in their competition - the trip to Spa too seemed to have been added as a bit of an afterthought! |
