New cost saving ideas
I have thought of a few ways to cut costs even more, while making the race "more interesting".
1 - All cars must be started by the driver alone using a key. This will eliminate one team member and the laptop normally required to start the key. Imagine seeing a driver running around 5 minutes before the start trying to find his keys. 2 - The cars will run on electric motors powered by solar panels that will replace the wings and bodywork. Refuelling stops will no longer be required. 3 - The cars must be driven to the track under their own power. This will eliminate the need for the big transporters. It will also require longer life engines. If anyone has any other ideas, send them to Max Mosely directly so that he can implement them before Australia! |

Well I do 1 & 3 in my racing! 2 is rubbish apart from the bit about getting rid of refueling.

The onboard computers must be no more advanced than a Commodore Amiga A1200.
All drivers may only eat fruit in the week leading up to the race. The post race champagne will be replaced with Lambrini. The national anthems will be played from a cheap MP3 player |

Tire changes can only be made using tires taken from the barriers by the drivers as they swing through the Gravel Traps.
All GrandP rix will be run on one track, (probably Sepang) on consecutive weekends in order to eliminate travel costs. The shortened season will allow drivers to take second jobs as waiters or lifeguards in the longer off-season. All testing will be done on Playstation 2 consoles linked via the internet to FIA servers in Paris. Team motorhomes in the Paddock will be limited to two VW Westfalia Caravans. |

the tow-truck drivers and crane operators around the track could be eliminated. if a driver crashes, he would have to run for the tow-truck, and then pull away his own reckage.

Why not build them like they did in the 50's.
1. Bodyshells must be porcelain bathtubs no more then 60 inches in length. 2. Bicycle tires and spoke rims only. Tires cannot be shaved. 3. Axles must be made from broomsticks or shovel handles. No artificial materials (e.g. plastic, fiberglass) are allowed. 4. All teams must use lawnmower engines provided by Briggs&Straton, MTD, or Toro. Engines must be mounted in the front and not exceed 20hp. 5. Bed spring suspensions only! |

2)cars must be built by a scrapheap challenge type format, taking the chassis of a 30 yr old land rover 3)drivers must weigh no less than 19st (......ok..i am ripping off some nascar rules here..) |

i should have explained myself more, they could use a modified lemans start at tracks where the start is on a bit of a downhill (i got the idea from MS). the cars could be released and the drivers have to catch up and get in then start the engine. This would lessen the need for off the line power helping to keep speeds up in the aftermath of such absurd notions as "long-life engines"

Added to that avsfan, a little like musical chairs the number of drivers will exceed the number of cars rolling down the hill. First in best dressed. If you miss out, you only chance is to 'take' a car during a pit stop.

This all sounds suspiciously like "Junkyard Wars".

Love the lemans musical chairs start!!!
But can you make it so that the drivers all start in one line and are allowed to claim(if they get there first!) a higher qualified car? |
