pD F1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
ITV F1 Coverage for 2005?

Hello all - new forum member here.

I thought ITV's F1 coverage last season was particularly bad. They used a number of new formats for presenting the programme, which for me didn't improve it, a let down compared to its 2003 coverage which I thought was very good. What would you like to see changed, or continued with this season?

I'd like to see the 'talk us through the grid' format changed back to what it used to be and not the graphic version with TJ not talking through it as though he was actually the lead commentator.
The show presented in the studio again (I think Rosenthal just got worse when they presented it in the paddock).
The extracts of the theme tune cut out when they leave and return from the commercial break.
More, or better presenters (won't happen though!)
Better commentator than James Allen to partner Brundle (again won't happen!)
Less advert breaks and shorter.
First Qualifying for Oz and Malaysia shown live and not at 2:00pm.
To use the normal theme tune (which I find decent) for Australia and Malaysia and not Catch me if you can!
What do you think should be changed?
Also what's the theme tune they've been using since 2003 called?

kind of agree with most of those PDf1 ....

still think the best thing that ITV could do would be to hire Peter Windsor and let someone of his understanding and stature give us a proper build up and roving insight into the race like he used to on Sky ....that was perfect , better than this jazzy bright ITV coverage with very little substance to back it up . Oh , keep Brundle though too .

Also , give us an INTERACTIVE Digital system as well...Premiere World in Germany still give out a multi screen coverage for there race fans .

Yes, I agree that Martin Brundle is a class co-commentator!
I don't tend to criticise ITV, but whatever they were trying to do last season took it to a new level - the worst level! If they can revet it back to the 2003 coverage which I thought was one of their best and we have a similar 'down to the wire season' still with MS coming out on top, then I'd be very pleased come October!

A minor point of style really.

I doubt that will change.

There are technical reasons why an adbreak "bumper" is required.

The team will be the same as 2004.

No chance - they need to make a profit

Melbourne qual is always live.

Malaysia never is - but there's nowhere ITV can broadcast it live for that particular session in Sepang.

Particular circumstances for that last year - Button's emergence and the song was just out. They'll use the normal theme usually.

Allen out, Edwards in.

It's a remix of "You Aint Seen Nothin' Yet"

Do you think at last ITV will make this the new theme tune for ITV F1? They have had 2 others: Jamiroquai and not sure what the 2000-2002 one was called. They only lasted for 3 seasons. The Chain would probably not suit modern F1 style, like it did perfectly for F1 in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

Remember last year at Imola on race day though, they used Buttons girlfriends song (again) to open the program. Presumably to commemorate Jensons pole. God that was hideous.

Hopefully they'll get a good guitarist on the theme this year (you know who i mean ).

I actually like the current theme as a tune, but perhaps it isn't the best for F1, certainly not for F1 ten years ago!

It's better than what we had from 2000 to 2002 anyways!

I used to like that Texaco one from 1997-1999.....it built the atmosphere in some way. Dunno why or how, but it worked!

My favourite was the middle one. 2000 to 2002. Although the chain has was a great tune.
The chain Always is a a good alarm to wake me up, because it reminds me of the great times, also has a great ring to it.
In case you forgot the '2000 to 2002' theme tune, here is the link

2 questions.
1. who wouldn't welcome the chain back with open arms to start the show?
and
2. who wouldn't want to keep brundle and ditch the rest of itv's team

Coming from the man who liked the worst one IMO!

Hey Rich....there is someone on the forums who hates Brundle. I mean hates Brundle. He'll pop up soon I'd say. I think he had a particular dislike for a commentary Martin did very badly at Aintree in 1809.

The chain was associated with the BBC's coverage.

ITV when they had the Premiership wouldn't have thought for a second of using the Match of the Day music!

On point two - Brundle's a star, but there are other individuals with merit on the ITV team.

I remember the tune and to go with it, an F1 car appeared from under a cover, the music got to a climax, then the F1 car started off and raced out of the garage - right into the TV screen.

They changed the current one slightly in 2004, making it worse. I remember in 2003 after the Toyata commercial it started off and had a slight build up, fast, but they changed the first bit in 2004, making it a pretty boring intro tune. I like the tune at the end most.

Yes.

Although the sponsor makes absolutely no difference to the programme content.

"The Super Racing Weekend" as it was in 2004 no longer exists.

There is now the FIA GT/WTCC package, and the separate Renault Racing Weekend.

Has anyone got a link to the current theme tune? I have found links for the Jamiroquai, the Chain and the 2000-2002 tune, not the 2003-2005 one though.
