They are simply the weekends there is not an F1 race scheduled.Though I don't know why a 6 week 'holiday' in June-July is needed?

TL, I vaguely remember a similar announcement of dates without venues some years ago but can't be certain so I'll give that to you.
The June/July break is due to, in TOCA's words, "to avoid some clashing broadcast requirements". That normally means football or rugby but don't think there are any major tournaments next year. Best guess would be the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup which is being hosted by England in June 2009. We've only had a couple of calendars released and already we have a clash - Aug 29/30 is the DTM's Brands Hatch round. |

The July Break may be to avoid the Tour De France next year, as it's messing up the Snetterton coverage tomorrow and likewise the next round at Oulton.
Unless ITV are about to announce a coup regarding the terrestrial coverage of the Cricket, I can't see that being a problem. |

However there is the British GP and Wimbledon during that break. I think Alan Gow also said that the teams have began to like a break mid season - who can blame them, if only we ever got a 'proper' summer!

Aren't the British GP and the Wimbledon final usually the same weekend?
EDIT (again) Keep the discussions about tomorrows TV in the relevant thread folks, not the 2009 thread! - touringlegend Last edited by touringlegend; 12 Jul 2008 at 21:45. |

GP is a bit earlier - 21st June - next year. Granted it's only a week after the final BTCC race of the first half of the season.

There are only so many weekends... Take last weekend, with WTCC in Estoril, DTM in Zandvoort and STCC in Falkenberg it was another wellfilled weekend. It also has something to do with the fact that the seasons of the DTM and the BTCC start so late. If there were some races in march, it would free up some dates a bit more.

As you suggested earlier, if BTCC was at Croft or Knockhill the same week as DTM at Brands then at least the impact would be lessened. |

BTCC used to start in march when it supported the F1 Race of Champions.Could revive Boxing Day at Brands Hatch only cancelled once due to weather that I recall in 20 years.
