Ralf just pips Jarno!
On the basis of the whole season, I'm really quite surprised.
I think Jarno performed better over all, but there you go. It was said that historically Ralph's head drops if he is outperformed by his team mate and that may have be one of the problems with him going to Toyota - with Trulli's ace qualifiying. So, maybe this is good for them as a team. Any thoughts on their respective merits this year? |

Ralf pipped Jarno anyway
Trulli certainly had a strong start to the season - maybe as a result of getting into Toyota at the tail end of last year? He's tended to qualify well and drop back to the natural race pace of the car, whereas Ralf has tended to be at the natural race pace of the car. Overall, equally matched. |

except by two points!
Good stuff though to see two team mates on virtually identical points, both seeming to get the same out of the package. No doubt Uncle Ron would have liked to have seen some of that at Mac, where the disparity is very noticeable (taking into account chinese drain covers)! |

Hmm.
Not sure the shoulder accounts for the best part of sixty points. |

It's pretty much what we predicted at the start....Trulli making a flying start and Ralf being stronger late on.
However, we all seemed to alter our opinions because Ralf was rubbish for 75% of the season. But he has really picked up of late and the new design philosophy of the TF105B clearly suits him better. I am shocked he managed to beat Trulli, but jarno hasn't scored since Hungary I don't think? So maybe it shouldn't be surprising? |

As for Montoya, the gap in points between Kimi and Montoya is massive but somewhat deceiving.
There is not that much disparity, JPM just got going too late in the year, thanks to his accident. Next year will amend things, no doubt. |

I think that the result is a little unfair on Trulli as, on balance, he has been the stronger of the two, though he clearly doesn't like the B-spec car as much as Ralf. The result does, however, contradict the views of those that said Ralf has been blown away by Trulli this season.
Between them, and Gascoyne, they have certainly raised Toyota's game. |

It has been said here and in the media that Jarno has blown away Ralf during the season, but actually, most of that 'blowing away' has been achieved at the qualifying stage rather than in the races. However, I agree that maybe Ralf finishing ahead of Jarno at the end of the season is marginally unfair. It does nevertheless confirm that one 'slaughtering' the other was, and is, a totally inaccurate assessment. Both drivers have done a good job with and for Toyota and I hope they both continue this improvement next season.

Trulli had done a solid job this season, but struggled with the new car.
Ralf had a poor start, but found decent performance with a new car which he likes. But worryingly for Toyota, could this signal that both drivers have very different preference in cars? That one driver would perform at the other's expense in terms from car characteristics? If that is so, Toyota would need to work around this problem really quick for next year if they want to even pose a challenge for WCC. |

This really is a surprising outcome, and I can't say I realised it was likely. In recent races Ralf has been the quicker Toyota driver, and Jarno has been completely anonymous several times, never more so than today. Up until mid-season Jarno was far faster, but Ralf did score solid points early on, and has been able to move forward and get results recently. Well done Ralf - he was a little lucky today, but has been unlucky a few times in recent races.
