For a website via Google.....
Rubens tried out a new 'black' helmet during qualifying at Monaco. Rubens copied the idea from Nick Heidfeld in applying a special-technology coating to his helmet that reveals his usual livery colours as the temperature rises, but in the cool Monaco conditions, Rubens' helmet stayed almost jet-black throughout the qualifying session. Maybe he decided to give it another outing? |

Rubens helmet is covered in a heat sensitive film that makes appear black until the temperature reaches 27 degrees when it fades to reveal his usual colours. Has been like this since Monaco.
Alex Wurz helmet was designed by a 12 year old! seriously it was a competition winning design, the prize being guests at the British GP and having Alex wear the design at the GP. Reverts to his usual colours for the next round I think. |

Maybe they should design the material to be the opposite: it turns black when the temperature rises. That way when the driver gets a bit "hot headed" and takes someone out, no one will know who it is!

Re Wurz, this is the complete answer, taken from Autosport.com:
Alexander Wurz had a new look in the British Grand Prix as he wore a special helmet that had been part of a competition design. Williams sponsors Hamleys ran a contest to design the Austrian driver's racing lid for Silverstone, and it was 12-year-old Suffolk fan Summer Finlay whose idea came out on top. Wurz chose the red and white design, and he was presented with it just prior to the start of Sunday's race by Summer herself. "Dad and I love Formula One and we always watch the races live, even if it is in the middle of the night," she said. "I've always loved the sport, and the chance to design a helmet was too good to miss. I wanted to use Alex's national colours and his initials, and that was the basis of my idea." I thought it looked pretty good. |

It did look pretty good to be honest. We wondered what had happened to his normal skid lid.

Maybe the next competition could be to design the car. The winners car gets built and used for the rest of the season.
Couldn't be much worse than the one they are using at the moment |
