A Volvo 850 estate that's been given the Max Power treatment. Oh dear.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Volvos.
Particularly the 850/V70 T5/T5-R/R models. In fact there's absolutely no substitute if you need to transport a wardrobe from one end of the country to the other very quickly... Though I think I'd give the max power chin spoiler a miss, and I'd be proud enough to keep the Volvo badge on the grille. |

Saabs too. But then Swedes do spend half their lives in darkness...
I wonder how many accidents have been caused by Volvos and Saabs with their lights on in broad daylight??... "Oi, mate!! You've got yer lights on! Oi! Yer LIGHTS!..." *smash* *bang* *plink* "...oooh buer!" |

It is about the only thing in this whole wide world that I actually hate - Volvos.
As Car magazine used to summerise about their cars: "Confirms Volvos as Europe's leading truck makers" Fancy allowing a design crew used to no sunlight for 50% of the year to make a car. What must you be suffering from to put your money into one of these? Against a BM or Merc for heaven's sake?. I apologise profusely. Each to their own of course: respect. But I absolutely detest Volvos. |

Hmm...
I seem to remember Rikard Rydell qualifying his 850 estate in BTCC with an inflatable labrador in hte back... That wasn't terribly grown up. But it was very funny... |

Agreed. Well, they've made a few clangers, but for the most part the current range is excellent. The X90 by all accounts is MIIIIIILES ahead of anything in its class, including the X5. Doesn't stop the picture above being one of a montrosity. Look at the grill. You can TELL that lurking underneath there is a base model engine!! That ain't no T5, let alone an "R". |

In Sweden (and Finland) it's MANDATORY to use lights, even when daytime, when driving outside the town area. Law was introduced to cars show better from long distance. I don't know otherwise, but it really helps, when car is pale gray or silver, and it is driving on tarmac road.

Not sure what Toads point is, I think we all know what a Volvo looks like (btw, I was trying to resize the first pic but it all went pear-shaped (I blame my ISP's infernal software) the second pic was removed for being too big.)

my point was that even cars with the image of old people can look good with some moddifications. (BTW i couldnt resize the last pic because is was just too long to cut any off without it all being squashed up)

They look good without any extra plastic, (the new ones do anyway) I like the convertable one (can't remember it's name, C70?)
Sure they have a reputation ('They're Boxy But They're Good') but they are shaking it off quite well! If you can't resize a large pic, just post the link please. |

Isn't it great that we all have such different tastes eh? I recall someone waxing lyrical about how great the Ford Ka looks recently.......

I've been driving around for the last two weeks in a 2003 Volvo V70 with a rear spoiler and 17" wheels. And before that I drove an S60. They are outstanding cars. And the S60 is particularly sexy.
Add to this the extremely well-selling XC90 which has nearly 170 orders in Australia, despite not going on sale until the third quarter. Also the C70 Convertible and the upcoming S40 replacement, and Volvo is turning into a damn fine car manufacturer. But my favourite is the S60 R. 220kW and 400Nm is fine by me. |
