TSN/SPEED details re live races
Here in Montreal, the French language sports channet RDS carried the race live from Mexico, but TSN only showed it at 1:30 Monday morning. THEY were showing a curling match!
I just finished watching it, and was surprised to see that it was a Speedvision (channel) production, with the regular characters (although thankfully, not too much of the Irish chap) who did a half decent job I found. Does this mean that in areas such as here, where Speed isn't available on cable, that all races will be delayed on TSN? This could be a distinct possibility as TSN may not have the rights to live showings because it is a Speed show. I did notice that the next race will be live on Fox, and I am curious to see if TSN will get the live feed from them. Who would be the announcers would be a guess though. Last year, most of the races were the Parker Johnstone and the other feller duo, but sometimes it was by a British bloke, and I never figured out why some races were with one group and others with the other. If any of you know the details, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I can always watch the French stuff, but I prefer the English . |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SpeedVision is a subsidiary of Fox. CBS works into the mix somewhere, too. When Long Beach is shown on Fox, they will be using the same announcers in Varsha et al.
The races you saw in previous seasons with the British announcer (name escapes me) were likely the two Canadian dates, and maybe Australia. CBC had exclusive rights to the Canadian broadcast, not ABC. I can't believe that Speed isn't available in Montreal. It's all over Ontario. |

That was probably it re: the other announcers.
As for Speedvision, yup, I guess cuz of the french audience, they never even tried to get it here. For the last bunch of years, I've been surviving on Speed tapes made for me by my best friend who lives in Kingston. Here, you can only get it via satellite tv, and I still havent even looked into it to see how much the systems cost, and moreso, what channel packages you have to pay for to get it. I'd be happy to get a very basic channel selection PLUS Speed, but I suspect that you have to pay for all kinds of stuff. |
