Cup thread - Subway 500 at Martinsville
Thank god this race immediately follows the F1, otherwise I think I'd have thrown myself out of the upstairs window by now. Although a Jimmie Johnson win would force me into this route!
Jeff Gordon starts on the pole. Doesn't look like he wants to let the Cup go this season. |

JPM, and 11 others, stay out. JPM is now up to 3rd! That was a good call. They had pitted about 20 laps earlier. Track position is vital at Martinsville. It is hard to believe that JPM has only led one race this season, although, of course, he won that race. Can he get out front today? |

Bugger! Was thinking it was live too and was looking forward to spending a couple of hours here chatting about it! Fantastic to have it back live (or as good as) though

A Montoya top five would cheer me immensely, however it will inevitably go tits up.

JPM ran well here in the spring. I think he has a solid chance at a top 10 (he has been the fastest car on the track over the last few laps, although that is aided by the 24 and 48 being mired in traffic). Be optimistic. JPM is due some good luck and good finishes.

Jpm First Off Of Pit Road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Edit: four cars either stayed out or took 2 so JPM did not get the lead. Last edited by VilleneuveTracy; 21 Oct 2007 at 19:06. |

JPm's car is much better now. He is consistently faster than the top 3 right now and has run the fastest lap during 3 of the last 4 circuits...
Edit: JPM records another fastest lap and moves up to 3rd. |

JPM and Jr, my two favorites, 1-2!!! They stayed out, along with 7 or 8 other drivers. Burton busted for a pit road violation. He had a good car.

Damn, Junior hit him because he got into the corner too hot, but great save by JPM. He remains in 4th and did lead 9 laps.

I don't know. I missed the last 40-50 laps while running errands. When I came back he was in 8th and now he is up to 7th.

Way too many cautions for the race to be interesting, especially at the end.

I agree. I know I am in a minority but I think NASCAR needs to reduce the field to 30 cars. A large percentage of cautions are caused by field fillers...
It is a shame engine woes robbed Junior of another top 5 but I was very happy with JPM's run. He led a few laps, ran in the top 10 all day and came home 8th. He finished 5th at Atlanta in the spring and was running 3rd late in the race before scraping the wall. He has a very good chance at collecting win #2 next week, especially considering the fact that he almost always runs better the second time he goes to a track. |

If that happened the number of full-time rides would decline as sponsors would not back 45th place teams that very rarely make races (which would be very, very rare for such a team if there were only 30 car fields). There would be a natural correction to having less cars. It would make the racing better. The field fillers contribute nothing to the show other than causing cautions.

Keep the 43 cars. In fact, let them all in!
I am happy with that result, Montoya 8th and a late spin for Ragan. That helps the Raybestos standings. Shame about the winner. |

Truex must have been in most of the record number of wrecks. He was a one man wrecking machine today. I'll bet Tony is thinking that he has had enough of Carl Edwards running into the back of him. A shame that we couldn't see more actual racing the last 30 some laps.
I think that 43 cars is fine for most of the tracks. Martinsville just happens to be the shortest track on the circuit and 43 cars fills the track but at least we have variety in racing. However, I hope they keep Martinsville and it doesn't go the way of North Wilkesboro or Rockingham. |
