"New" Konrad Saleen
Here are the first pictures of the new Konrad Saleen direct from the Oschersleben practice. Currently only the #5 Saleen has the new rear bodywork.

Yes you can see the rear defuser on the #5 car is differnt too. Hopefully the new tail can add a extra bit of downforce.

With Lechner and Gounon aboard, the #5 car could fly.

Indeed, the tail looks identical. Although the defuser on the ACMECO car is the old design.

The modifcations would appear to have had a fairly big effect if this mornings 1st free practise times are anything to go by, which can be found here already the times are almost as fast as in 2004.

thanks for the photos! . I was wondering how it would look, and it looks a lot like the Acemco example, apart from the new diffuser. I believe there are changes to the front of the car too, do you know anything about that?
And if you talked to Franz, whats his plans for the rest of the season? Is it to finish out the FIA GT Championship. And what about 2006? |

It's interesting that he's gone for the "flipup" style tail that ACEMCO had last year. It seemed to be a hallmark of the new California-built chassis, assuming that the #5 is indeed a freshly ordered car as was suggested by 19dodge a while back. The new diffuser doesn't seem that different (an extra strake on each side), but there could be more details that are unseeable.
It's interesting that in 2005 the ACEMCO car has frequently practiced with its "new" 2004 rear clip, but lately seems to have raced with the old-style rear clip. I could possibly understand that at Road America (less downforce?) but I seem to remember it wasn't in evidence in the race at far more twisty tracks. There seems to be some new venting around the rear window of the #5 Konrad car too. I was thinking it may have something to do with the 6L motor I think Konrad is now using, but the 2004 ACEMCO car doesn't have them. Are the #4 and RAM cars still 7L blocks? EDIT: dodge, there is one photo of the front of the #5 on the official FIA-GT website. The front looks just like the traditional Saleen, or the ACEMCO car. |

yea, i noticed that (front nose looks the same)
i dont think this is the new chassis, although i cant be certain. I still think its #002R, which was the Vitaphone one from last season, and the one that was used in 2003, and earlier. And they could still be running the 7L unit here this weekend, I am not sure. But with the amount of development Franz has put into the effort, it looks like they will be back next year in the Championship with the Saleens. I dont see them putthing this much development and effort in for just the final 5 races of the season. |

dodge, I agree with your conclusions, at least from an optimist's point of view. The realist in me says that while that could be the plan, all it takes is a bit of expected funding not showing up to ruin all.
The pipe-dreamer in me really hopes that the cars would return to America next year much like GNM is threatening to do. Of course, this season has given me even less hope that funding for said GNM plan will come through. I wish Paolo Ruberti could get a more consistent platform to demonstrate his talent from, because some quite clearly exists... |

I wonder if the European cars have what seems like a damper problem that the Acemco car seems to suffer from.
That car bounced alot more than the Vette did coming into Canada Corner last weekend. The car isn't as good on the brakes as the Vette either it seems. Seems some major re-engineering is in order for this car to be effective. If Ford did't go off and build the GT(40) some developement dollars would be WELCOMED from them. |

Ford isnt associated with the Saleen S7R at all. Many think that its a Ford V8 in there, but infact, its a totally Saleen derived V8. it does not use Ford Parts.
And you know who got commisioned to build the Ford GT's? Saleen.. They build them up in their new plant in Michigan. anyways, well done to Konrad for a 4th place finish. They deserved it, and it proved that they never gave up. Now, they can shoot for podiums for the final four races of the season! |

Reckon it's great that people such as Konrad run a car as stunning as the Saleen, because it's an advertising point about FIA GT? Most men will see the car and think "wow!" - could well be included in advertising the series if it does indeed go it alone soon? *edit* - I mean advertise it in this way more than they already do lol Just my thoughts and wonders and ponderings... |
