Todt in GT.

Jean Todt has been replaced as CEO of Ferrari. He will now be assigned with "GT Developments" for the period 2008-2010. Will we see other than F430 cars or better F430 cars?

Who says they're mutually exclusive?

we'll see both

They want a GT1 version of the 430?

In holland they say that he wants more time for himself and family and is going to take it easy. Well they don't mention GT racing that often so...

Where did you hear about Todt doing GT stuff in future?

Oh dear...

I've said this before but I hate the idea of that man in sportscar racing. His dedication to Ferrari is amazing but the attitudes to the competition that he's shown before make me sick.

How long before he demands Le Mans be GT2-only so the F430 can win outright?

this is what I posted in another forum on the same subject....

"I am sure we will soon hear the usual suspects say that FIA and Ferrari will come up with a new GT(1?) class to specifically honour the wishes of how Ferrari wants it to be run"

and the first reply to that came from a guy named: McLarenCrazy

Hopefully the ACO will react in exactly the same way as when he suggested that the 24 Hours be split into several smaller races so the 905 could win it.

More seriously, let's wait and see how the details of this shake out. I first saw this being reported thus

What these "special appointments" mean is really open to question. Is this building a replacement MC12 to win the FIA GT as a works outfit? Is it to build a new GT1 for commercial reasons? Is it deepening the GT offering into GT3 etc where there are more potential sales?

Could be a lot of things some good, some not so good.

There are also reports that he is positioning himself to go for the FIA presidancy for which the elections are later this year - so there may be nothing in this.

"special appointment" if I had to guess is semi retirenment. Still active on the company. May be just as a consultant for GT cars, and GT racing. But develop a whole new line or a new GT car? I dont think so. Would be nice, but dont think so.

911 GT1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Why should they change to another model? They still have the 430 in GT2 and GT3. Ferrari presented details of the F149 or "Dino" to Ferrari Customers in February at the party of the Challenge series. But there were no signs of racing the Dino...

Some thoughts about Todt and Ferrari GT projects:

The f149 is NOT a race car in any way and definately not a Dino-type car, will be a small, for a 2+2, (430ish sized) 2+2 hardtop convertible. Think front engine 430 spyder. Doesnt have the racer look, esp against the 430 GT car, http://www.leftlanenews.com/wp-conte...97&idg=1&idi=3
Personally think they might be looking at the GT1 type replacement for the MC12 but from the Ferrari stable, esp given the press and love surrounding how fast the comfortable 599 is. I think they already had cobbled one together previously and it didnt come out fast, correct?

It certainly would be quite nice. The FXX Evo would be a grand beginning.

No offense, but given the trend towards the 2010 rules being trashed in favour of something the manufacturers actually like, that sounds like a terrible idea. A blank sheet (or blank CAD file) sounds like a grand beginning. There is no reason to base a modern LMP off anything close to road-legal (which any FXX is, irrespective of technicalities) unless you enjoy wasting copious sums of money to get spanked.

Is that also the way you look at the homologated Aston Martin engine in the new Lola LMP1? I actually doubt if Ferrari built 1000 engines according to Enzo/FXX spec. Possibly they could include the 599/612 block but I am not sure...

Has anyone thought, maybe Ferrari can't afford to go "proper" sportscar racing? Compared to Audi's and Peugeot's resources, Ferrari would only make a 2nd rate LMP1 car like they did with the 333SP because all their money is being injected into MS and KR's bank accounts.

They wouldn't want to tread on Maserati's toes in GT1 and they already have good coverage in GT2.

I think the 333 does not deserve any "2ndhand" rating at all..

Charming, but false. Driver salaries have been payed by Marlboro for years already, that's not coming out of Ferrari's pocket.

That new one is ridiculous, they should have called it Girlyfornia. Hell, a Toyota Aygo looks more masculine than that thing. Big cold shower...

Yes, but it is no Audi R8 or R10, it has legendary status for being a Ferrari sportscar, not for its results.
