ACO Spec Vs. FIA GT Spec
I tried to get an answer on this in the ALMS forum, but no luck. I'll try here.
If I understand correctly FIA GT is running to ACO spec this year. In fact, it was easy to see the 550's and 575's were running the narrower wings at Monza. But I'm not sure I understand the following two pictures: Lambo ALMS 2004 http://www.americanlemans.com/galler...fying/7_lg.jpg Lambo FIA GT 2005 http://www.project-lemans.de/index.p...7&key=16&hit=1 Is it me, or does the Lambo appear to have a narrower wing in the 2004 pic versus the 2005 pic? Both races were run under ACO specs. Were they allowed a larger wing this year in FIA GT? I recall one of the grumblings about the K-B Lambo was that it lost downforce due to the narrow wing. Any comments? Last edited by jhansen; 13 Apr 2005 at 21:20. |

Maybe the ACO rules changed for 2005? I believe the width of the rearwing on the FIA gt cars depends on the with of the windscreen base, hence the lambo has a wider wing than the Saleen.

But that was the rule last year as well if I recall. The Pagani had a very narrow wing for the same reason.

Autosport magazine reported that the Lambo is allowed to run a bigger air restrictor this year, but no info about its wing size.

It's only for the ALMS races the wing had to be shortened. I remember reading an article at the time which explained why the wing had to be shortened but I forgot the exact reason. Last edited by Saleen; 14 Apr 2005 at 12:27. |

The Lambo did not have to run to ACO specs in the FIA GT last season. That's why it had a bigger wing. However, the K-B Lambo had to run the ACO spec wing in the ALMS and complained of low downforce. Fast forward to 2005. FIA GT is now running ACO specs. Look at the Ferrari 550's wings this year compared to last year. But the Lambo didn't change. I'm just wondering why.
Just to show the difference, Ferrari 550M in 2004: http://www.project-lemans.de/index.p...45&key=6&hit=1 Ferrari 550M in 2005: http://www.project-lemans.de/index.p...7&key=18&hit=1 Thanks project-lemans.de for the great pics. Last edited by jhansen; 14 Apr 2005 at 15:18. |

Everyone had the wide wings. Except the Maser, but that was an extra sanction. |

Dont forget guys, the ALMS is still running to the ACO regulations as of 2003 if I remember correctly, this would explain why the rear wings differ in size to those of the cars in FIA GT and the LMES.
