Tecno f2 cars
Does anyone know whether Tecno 1600 f2 cars had a chassis plates or numbers stamped on them, and also what the difference is between an f2 chassis and f3?

There was a five digit number, usually prefixed T
There's no difference between F2 and F3 number patterns. There was an Autosport feature on Tecno in about 1970 I think which gave the number ranges. Certain types had certain number ranges, like T00800 to 820 for F2 then 821 - 850 for F3 and so on in a certain year. [That's an example not an actual range!] Very few of the numbers are known, it seems, especially for the F3 cars. I don't think there was a plate, at least not on the early models, the number is stamped on the chassis tubing. Chris |

Is it possible that some of the cars left the factory with no numbers stamped on them, therefore making it difficult to trace the history of a particular car?

No chassis plate but a number stamped on the chassis. Have seen numbers in different locations: front left near the pick up point of the shock absorber, top of the roll hoop, corner of the engine bay.
Chassis numbers not in sequence: T008xx are 1970 cars, T007xx are 1971 cars. Cars used in F3, F2, FFord, FFrance (chassis made in France). Same basic chassis but with some specific features depending on engine/gearbox used, class and year (chassis evolution). Major evolution for the 1971 model. |

They generally had the numbers stampe on the chassis but like many of the cars from the period, sometimes the same chassis no would be allocated to more than one car. This was often the case with imported cars to save on import duty... I do know a man and a lady who race this marque - if you have any specific query I could put the word about for you?

Hello again Imm. I just happened to take a call from a friend and asked him yr query and he has come up with the following for you. Apparently the F3 chassis nos for 1967 to 1969 (he has no other years) began TOO and then 202 - 420 and the F2 had the same TOO prefix with nos 268 - 292 for '68 and 302 - 306 for '69. He may be able to find out more info from his books from the period.

That moe or less fits with what info I have, except that I also have 298 as an F2 car, plus 378, 400 and 402
It seems 800-series numbers was used for the 1970 F2 cars (but 700s, as well as 800s, in 1971!) |

When you have a Tecno and don't know what to do with it, you can always hang it on the wall (this F3 has a modified bodywork and incorrect rear wing).

I guess thats what Peachy has listed but here it is in a bit more detail. Autosport May 23rd '69 p.36 Tecno 4, 1964-68, 230 built, Ducati 250cc Formula 4, no chassis number Tecno 850, 1965, 1, Fiat 850 -no number listed. Tecno F3, 1966-67, 6, prototypes & all different & no number Tecno F3, 1967-69, 114 built, TOO 202 to 420 Tecno F2, 1968-69,15 built, TOO 268 to 292 ('68) and TOO 302 to 306 ('69) This looks like even numbers only, what was the logic behind that? To avoid 13 & 17? Andrew |
