British GP - Will it mess up the fixtures?
The British Grand Prix has been scheduled for July 10 next year, a week later than originally planned. Given that the 'provisional' national racing calendars had been compiled on the basis of it being on July 3, are we going to see re-issued fixture lists for many circuits and series for 2005?

With all the rubbish that the marshals have to put up with every year at the circuit (GP) I can't see why people would want to shell out a small fortune to be there-support the local club events I say and S*d the GP!

I agree - Marshals and punters should be treated far better by the GP lot, thats where Silverstone needs to spend its dollars, on covered stands, better facilities for the punters and mor big screens

Who cares ?
Other forms of motor sport, notably Hill-Climbs and Sprint offer a full days action at a tenth of the price for spectators. The spectators can be within 15ft, at some venues, of cars doing 130+ if you like speed. Full access to the paddock {or pits to the non-regulars} with drivers and mechanics who will speak to you. Vast variety of cars with anything between 150 to 240 competing. The premier hill-climb is, of course Shelsley Walsh near Worcester, but I would say that wouldn't I ? The others are all pretty good with their own characteristics. Give it a try and don't be taken advantage of the money men |

On the provisional lists for July 10th so far I have:
BTCC Croft - Will probably change, as they don't like to clash British F3 @ Monza - ?Change 750MC Formula Student - Probably will stay as this is usually at the same time as GP 750MC Pembrey - As above Mallory SoM FFord - ? Brands FFord - ? Al. |

Harewood is July 2/3 so the GP now doesn't clash.

I think the TOCA calander will be changed. I have also noticed that there is a clash between the Silverstone round and the RAC Rally ,sorry Wales Rally GB.

It's not just car meetings that the date swap will affect; bike meetings will also be affected..........

Rob,
the 24-hour Nurburgring dates were changed to 5-8 May several weeks back. I shall be marshalling there at the "British Korner" -- the Carousal. The other big clash with the 10th July is the FoS at Goodwood, if Goodwood is not re-scheduled, this will provide the biggest dilemma of my and many other marshals' life. |

This is what happens when people cast dates in stone based on the FIA's draft calender. I can't remember a year when things haven't changed when the FIA change the dates.
I'd love to know the dates for quite a few championships for next year, so I can plan my "cherry picking" of my favourite circuits!! At least I know that DoT will be running on the first weekend of each month starting May. Rob. |

The joys of an announcement being made on Friday, leading to a weekend of panic Wait until next week and se how the clubs shuffle the fixtures has to be the plan.
I certainly don't expect FoS to stay clashing with the GP Al. |

Well if the Mini's are at Brands I know where I'm gonna be-there will be more overtaking on 1 lap than there will be all weekend at Silverstone...marshals and media vote with your feet and support some real racing that weekend and not help a small little man keep his fleet of executive jets flying all around the world!

The BARC calendar has yet to be unfurled, but for the past 3 years we have enjoyed an away day at Croix on GP weekend! Assuming BARC do the same again, je suis dans la Belle France ....................a pox on the GP!

All you marshalls and spectators, forget the GP and go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed or why not visit one of the Autograss meetings that take place all year long throughout the country.....you get at least 40 races in a day some guaranteed spectacular racing/incidents (for all you photographers/video boys) and all for a fiver.
Don't be fooled into thinking that this is lesser form of motorsport than that which takes place on the circuits, it isn't.....sure the cars can look a bit second hand but you look at the specials that are usually on show and into the engine bays of some of the Class 5, 6 & 7's saloons and you will see that there is quite a bit of serious engineering going on and also a great deal of money being spent to prepare the vehicles. The Burgers and Breakfast rolls are also superb and sensibly priced. It's also best to take a cool bag with a few nicely chilled Stellas along as well!! |

Ahh, Autograss... wanna buy a Class 2 Escort? It's been languishing in my presence for a few years. Usual spec, dents, mud, etc.. Got a new front cage to go in it.
Like a lot of things, I keep meaning to get it up and running again and go playing grassing at my local club. The entry fee is the same as the spectators pay - which used to be three measly quid! That's cheap motorsport! Rob |
