Liuzzi signs Ferrari deal

Reigning F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi will spend 2005 in a Ferrari cockpit, a source in the Italian media has revealed

source: f1racing.net

The Italian racer, who totally dominated F1's support category this season and was a contender for a Sauber seat, has signed a long-term deal to test in 2005 but ultimately race for the Maranello-based world champions.

Liuzzi, 23 and born in Pescara, may graduate from a season of testing to race for Sauber in 2006, the source reported, or even be Hinwil's 'third' driver next year.

Yes.

That f1racing.net site (no connection with the magazine of a similar name) does have a habit of reporting rumour as fact.

Topic already being discussed elsewhere.
In any case It's no surprise to us in Italy.
His Sauber deal was seen as a consequence of Liuzzi's connection with Maranello

Not really, Sauber called Red Bull and said they wanted to test him

Both hypothesis are credible, and both may have worked indeed.

At least it's better that Liuzzi would be linked to Ferrari instead Sauber if he decided to be a test F1 driver. The Swiss team is infamous for its threatment for their test drivers (remember what happened to Fontana, Müller, Bernoldi and Jani -Raikkonen wasn't an official test driver, he just made private tests with them-).
