What is Maserati up to?
So Maserati are producing a successor to the MC12 called the MC20 to be launched shortly - the interesting thing is the statement on the article attached:

I would think GT2 is more likely than a single make car for the halo car of their lineup. Single make would be the GT car. But depending on the base car they use it could be tough to find a class for it outside of GT2. Guessing they would use bits from the parts bin rather than a new chassis from the ground up unless Alfa needs a new 6C to slot between the previous models

Still, great that Maserati commits to racing again. The Gran Turismo has performed rather well in the GT4 class over the last decade, but has now bowed out gracefully, and a new GT2/GT3 racer would be really great. Last edited by merak1974; 27 Feb 2020 at 21:23. |

Maserati is now testing the proper full prototype, rather than a development mule, and the released photos indicate a GT2/GT3 type of car:

A GT2 would fit the Ferrari group scheme.

Interesting looking muletta!
Got the MC12 'face' with a look a bit like any o 488/R8/C8 from the cockpit to the rear. Exhaust note suggests V6 turbo? |

That low down exhaust sounds so bad, why does everything have to sound like a tractor now

I think Maserati appreciates the opportunity to shape its own strategy, with fewer constraints from Ferrari.

But given the COVID-19 situation, it seems unlikely that the planned schedule with a presentation of the MC20 at the end of May will hold. All car production in Italy was suspended last week, and other activities, including testing, are probably down to a trickle.

A hommage to Moss and pointing to the future
https://www.topgear.com.ph/news/car-...a2613-20200517
New photos provide a good idea of how the car will look like, apart from the details that will surely set it apart as a true Maserati. ... But, I am shocked by the lack of knowledge displayed by someone who writes for TopGear: "This will also be the first Maserati powered by an engine developed entirely in-house". C'mon, we are dealing with a marque with more than 100 years of history, and which throughout its history has designed and manufactured almost every conceivable type and configuration of engines; from straight 4, 6, and 8, V6, V8 and V12, to even V16 (double-8). Not many manufacturers are even close to that diversity, and basically all of them were fully in-house designs, apart from the - historically speaking - rather recent teaming-up with other marques in the FCA conglomerate. I'm hoping that's PR speak from Maserati and their disconnect from the marque. Otherwise, yeah, someone needs to be booted from Top Gear post haste.
