EKBLOM AND ENGSTRÖM COME TO MONZA
Swedish drivers Fredrik Ekblom and Tomas Engström will take part in the WTCC Italian round at Monza next week.

Ekblom"s participation with BMW Team UK had been announced earlier in the season when he entered in his home event at Anderstorp.

After that he managed to secure the Swedish Touring Car Championship title, the third in his career after also landing the crown in 1998 and 2003.

Ekblom will also take part in the WTCC final round at Macau with the task to help Andy Priaulx to clinch another world title.

Engström is also well known in the paddock, as he made occasional visit to the WTCC and the ETCC first during the past seasons. He will race in Monza at the wheel of his Honda Accord car with which he classified tenth in this year's Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Will he get support from JAS?

Diesel is populair:
Quote:
Gabriele Tarquini has asked SEAT to let him race with their new turbo-diesel engine for his home round of the WTCC at Monza.

The Italian fell out of contention for the title last weekend at Brands Hatch, but he is hoping that SEAT will have a third diesel car ready for the next round of the championship on October 7.

"To win in Italy would be fantastic," said Tarquini. "I hope to be able to drive the new car with the turbo diesel engine."

SEAT introduced their diesel engine at Anderstorp earlier this season, and since then Yvan Muller and Jordi Gene have enjoyed good results with it.

Tarquini will use a Tdi car at Monza, it´s confirmed. And SEAT will have a new official car in Italy with Óscar Nogués at wheel.

Could Priaulx wrap up the title here before Macau I wonder?

Too damn tired to do the maths... and I can't count anyway!

I have a feeling that with Thommo's Alfa being as slippery as a slippery thing, he might just repeat Valencia's double-winning weekend...

of course, as stated, the TDis do seem swift...

4 races left, max 10 points per race. Mathematically anyone down to Huff could still win the championship, even if that's very unlikely.

Priaulx would need to be 21 points ahead by the time he leaves Monza. He's needs to outscore Farfus by 9 points, Yvan by 7, Jorg by 6 and lose no more than 4 points to Thompson, 6 to Menu, 10 to Tarquini, 13 to Larini and 16 to Huff.

In theory it's possible, but with ballast and reverse grids I wouldn't like to predict how likely. My gut instinct says it's a big ask.

Priaulx can easily wrap up the title, but considering the clambering mass behind in 2nd etc. anyone can easily make a good gain.

In fact, if Priaulx has another 0 point weekend and Thommo for example picks up a double win (happened once already, and it is Monza and he's in an Alfa! -so not impossible), he suddenly jumps back in contention just 4 points behind.

Obviously the simple stat is Priaulx needs to leave with a 21 point lead over whoever is 2nd to be assured of the title. He is the only driver who can leave Monza with the title in hand, but it's very unlikely - hopefully we're heading to the wire.

Priaulx won a race at Monza last year if I recall?

In fact, im surprised that the rear drive cars are competitive there at all given the circuit characteristics.

Correct Sodemo...

previous Monza winners:
2003 ETCC: Thompson (Alfa), J Muller (BMW)
2004 ETCC: Tarquini (Alfa), J Muller (BMW)
2005 WTCC: D Muller (BMW), Thompson (Alfa)
2006 WTCC: Priaulx (BMW), Farfus (Alfa)

looks like the SEAT and Chevrolet drivers need to buck their ideas up... will TDi power make the difference or will Alfa again claim pole, with a BMW picking up race 2 from 6th/7th/8th after Race 1??

All the pointers are there... although History is Bunk, according to Henry Ford

Well, it's not all that bad Last race at Adria there were 11 cars:

Cesare Cremonesi in a BMW 320 E46
Manuel Flaminio in a Alfa Romeo 147 Cup
Massimo Arduini in a Honda Civic Type R
Luigi Palazzo in a BMW 320 E46
Giorgio Fantilli in a Alfa Romeo 156
Fabio Fabiani in a BMW 320 E46
Francesco Bandini in a BMW 320 E46
Giulio Valentini in a Alfa Romeo 147 GTA
Alessandro Revello in a BMW 320 E46
Carlo Mursia in a Alfa Romeo 147 JTD
Roberto Conte in a BMW 320 E46 (brother of Paolo Conte? )

But you were right, they're racing on the 7th too

I count only 7 points scoring S2000 cars there, assuming none of those are driver swaps.

Those Alfa 147's aren't S2000, so Super Producuzione won't be allowed to race.

ITCC will be in a separate race on Saturday - 14 cars, only 3 of which are S2000 spec. Even if they were in the main WTCC event the quickest car in qualifying was 5 seconds off Thompson's free practice time, so they wouldn't be make much difference to the result.

Looking bad for BMW.

Thommo, Chevy and Muller's TDI has the opportunity to do some catching.

E46 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Leon Tdi cars are so fast in straight. SEAT did a smart move with diesel solution.
