VSR Joining ASCAR
See Autosport 5th Dec 2002.
VSR Joining ASCAR story. No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No,... do I make myself clear? VSR should clear off to Super Silhouettes and leave the proper oval racing to ASCAR. |

Can't they just clear off ..... totally, permanently and irrevocably?

As Bob Berridge said in the report, "you may as well herd a couple of sheep onto the track".
It is just plain daft. |

Also, read that Rockingham bosses are behind the idea too...
So David Grace and his boys have been replaced by the local lunatic asylum? |

VSR sucks big time.
David Grace isn't Rockingham boss anymore. Don't remember who is. |

VSR is what the Eurocars are called now but have more freedom on bodyshapes, etc.
The BRSCC stopped backing the Eurocars and tried repackaging it. To me, they all look like T-Cars now. Shame. Some bloke called Pover is the new Rockingham boss and he has already "saved" $4m a year by dumping the CART race - claiming "5 months isn't long enough to market the event". He's a bean-counter and will probably start charging marshals entrance fees next year... |

If the pick-ups are to race on the oval as support to ASCAR, (though I would rather watch them on the road course) why not Vsports?
At least the steering wheel is on the correct side for oval racing, and wont have to be converted like the pickups, and the VSR V8s should have more power. Could even prove a good stepping stone to ASCAR |

Yes, I agree with the stepping stone idea, but to put them on the track at the same time will be similar to having half a dozen Peter Storms racing with the ASCARs. Scary! ;-)
I also agree the VSR V8s do sound good. Having been a regular at Mallory with the Eurocar package it was very addictive! |

With no backing (LC Brask did his very best)the series was on to a loser and will next year plummet even further if no sponsor can be found. Probably not the right type of car to join Formula Saloons so why not fit them in with one of the "Open Saloon" championships? (Rod, any thoughts?)For certain they must stay well clear of ASCAR at all costs. After all...adding another class (V8's)was the death sentence to what was (and still would be!)a superb V6 series!

I think the BRSCC are setting up a new Super Silhouette series which had the VSRs in mind. This freaked out the VSR boys so they're trying to hijack ASCAR.
If was looking to enter ASCAR as a team or sponsor, the thought of having VSR cars on the same grid does not appeal. The organisers should make a clear statement now saying this will never happen. |
