Historic Sportscars

Ive got a mate who wants an old sportscar, something from the 70's early 80's. Not something too big like a Can Am or Group C but something like a 2l sports car. What I was wondering is what events/championships are running in 2005 and what type of car is best to get the most running. There is going ot be 2 of them owning the car so they would prefer to do 4 or 6 hour enduros. I think 1000kms and 24 hour races would be beyond them.

Any Ideas?

Only thing I can think of is the Orwell Supersports Cup if it is a 70s 2-litre ( Chevron etc).
Not 4-6 hr races though. Usually 30 min double headers I think.

that i sthe great problem - there is no endurance races for this class and Thundersports. I am very interested in running a Tundersports but there is nothing for them to do a great shame......

Sports 2000 is well worth a look.Its an up and coming series with emphasis on value for money racing.Complete packages start from under £10k.Their website is:

That french series looks good, its just a shame that the historic class is pre 71.

yes S2000 is interesting and I think the Historic races could become very good. I would be even happier if they moved away from the current and ran with say HSCC as the S2000 meetings are not as nice as the bigger historics, maybe they could try and get a race at the Silverstone Festival. I would like to run with them if it takes off.
Do you think you can get a fully race readsy car for 10k?

Shrike for sale at £8k which includes race entries to all UK rounds on Sports 2000 website.Bargain if you want to go sports car racing.

Would suggest a cost of 80-90000 GBP to put a race prepared 2 litre on the grid or 65000gbp for a Lotus 23 or similar

Brand new duratec sports 2000's you are looking at 30-35k for a fully race ready brand new car. However its quite possible to pick up a pinto car for between 8-20k depending on condition and history etc

I think sports 2000 is not really what they are looking for. It more like a Formula Ford class than a Formula 2 class. Also they want to live the high life at all the exotic european tracks.

Buy a 60's sports car 65k GBP on the grid and race anywhere.Gentleman drivers have to many entrants and any decent car is very expensive

I agree with John, 60's sportscars have an abundance of racing most of which are at the "tarty" meetings. The problem with S2000 is that the meetings are a little "clubby". IMHO historics need to move into the historic arena rather than staying with current S2000!

Theres nothing wrong with Sports 2000 or Formula Ford come to that matter. The British Sports 2000 series raced in 2004 at Brands GP, Zandvoort and Spa to name a few circuits.If racing abroad is his thing there are other European series to compete in as well.Pinto's may not sound as nice as a BDG but they are a dam sight cheaper!

Off course theres nothing wrong with Sports 2000, but if you had the money to do TGP F1 and do glamourous events all over the world would you do NWFF1600 with the glamourous Ian Smith?

Is there nothing for the lovely 70s sports cars then except the Orwell thing?

there is nothing wrong with current S2000, however historic FF doesnt look out of place at an HSCC meeting and all I am saying is that for many a great place to race the historic S2000 would be possibly a resurrection of the RJB Mining sereis for thundersports etc... I for one would go and buy something to run in it as I cant afford Orwell in addition to my 60's sports racing but really like the cars of that period
