If it's the Barry Barnes who drove special saloons and lived near Brands Hatch I'm sorry to tell you that he died in July, 2007.
A great bloke and keen club racer.

The Barry Barnes car was the first ever Spec/Super saloon Skoda, so historic in a way. Built for Chris Meek in early 1974, later used by Alex Poole, Nick Whiting, Paul Everett, and others. Lots of pics of it on here I'm sure

Now now Dan, we've been here before. I know that somewhere, deep, deep down you know that John Turner's was the first Skoda to hit the tracks.

You're right Peter (?), but I think the Jessop/Meek car was the first actually built and tested!!

It's amazing that the Chris Meek and John Turner Skodas debuted very close to each other and must have been conceived at a similar point in time - makes you wonder if the one knew about the other?

I always thought it a logical choice. Porsche layout at ski. Er Skoda price.

Peter, apologies, I was wrong on this. The Barnes car wasn't the original Jessop/Meek one. It was built for/by him, coming out in late '78. Seems that Barry and Jason's dad built it. Was it based on a 'real' racing car I wonder?

Hi Jason, if you have time, it's worth looking through that thread, Barry's name is mentioned more than once, and there's many pics of Skodas and other cars racing at that time.

Jason do you or your dad have any knowledge or memories of the Lola spaceframe the Skoda was built on. Was it an S2000 Lola maybe?

Can't have been built on a Lola S2000, because they were semi-monocoques with a tubular rear frame to carry a Ford motor as an unstressed member. Perhaps it was a home-built spaceframe, but using Lola suspension?

Jason ,Have an idea that this was a Barry Barnes Escort, on this occasion being driven by Tim Swadkin at Lydden. The pic would have been about 82/83.
Also have some pics somwhere of Barry in his toyota, will post them here when found.
