Unveiled at Autosport Show today by a bevy of lyrca and cleavage. Changing the face of motorsport maybe. Changing the stereotype of motorsport, errr maybe not.

The website is rather naff isn't it? I saw it was based in Louth and immediately thought of Mr Glew and of course it is. Does this look like a non-goer to anyone else? Sorry GG I'll happily eat my words if it happens next year and at least your £1.50 a minute premium line should cover the set up costs.
As for stereotypes, I remember a dozen years ago a mate of mine stated he was willing to race in stockings and suspenders if that was what the sponsors wanted [we were in line for a spectacle firm's money at the time]. Anyway he insisted, he obviously had his own reasons, and it wasn't pretty and because of that it turned out it wasn't what the sponsors wanted to see! |

Think its doomed before it starts. They have limited there intake a bit (only women who dont hold a race licence and that can afford to do it). But it will make the V8's look good as they will have loads more cars (probably about 3).
It would surely be better for them (and motorsport) to join a racing series that is already running |

No. Absolutely not. It's a dollhouse for girls, formed in the desperate hope that "if we give them a place to play, they will not want to play with US." And apparently restricted to Tecate and Hawaiian Tropic Girls.
In a racing suit with a helmet on, we all look alike. Put us out on the track together and may the best driver win. |

Very strange. The great thing about motor racing is, as Liz says, you can be young, old, male or female and no-one can tell with your helmet on, and everyone can compete on completely equal terms. Some good names seem to be involved to whatever extent, but it deifnitely has the feeling of money-making venture about it (compare with Interactive Sportscar Championship for instance). Who is Graham Glew btw? Name is ringing bells, but I can't think why.
Anyway, what is a Formula Woman? Don't think I've ever met one - they tend to be a rich variety! |

Think of it not as a race series, more a TV series. True the TV deal hasn't yet been done but it will all be filmed. Motorsports equivilent of Pop Idol without the kareoke.
The name Graham Glew doesn't mean much to me but from his biog.. designed/built Touraco FFord car ran teams in FFord and FFirst managed Oliver Gavin marketing manager Pacific GP |

Saw the display at Autosport's Trade Day, I also had the opportunity to eavesdrop on a few reactions. Unsurprisingly, some men are for it as being 'a bit of a larf'... (Not me I hasten to add), but again, unsurprisingly a lot of the negative comments came from women who see it as degrading and further proof that women are not expected to succeed in Motorsport.
My opinion is that this is reverse-sexism. It also sends out the wrong message to women: "Look dears, you know you don't stand a chance in real racing, so we have created this little championship just for you darlings. Cars will be VERY trendy and available in a choice of fetching colours, with matching race-gear". Another point, those of us that can remember that far back can recall the original MX5 cup as being duller-than-ditchwater. So with several novices (irrespective of gender) being taught to race in these before graduating to the MX8's, how are the organisers going to keep interest? I hate to put down new series and the like but what a load of rubbish, women are accepted in motor racing these days anyway its just a case of getting them in. Whats next formula ethnic minority?

Now how about a series for men only? Oops, can't do that - we have laws against discrimination on the grounds of sex!

oh, and just a point - it's practically tailor made for a reality tv show. that's how they'll sustain the interest. it's not an interest excercise, it's about publicity and that's what it's got. think about the market mazda are aiming that car at - fits the market they're aiming the series at perfectly.
and it really is a lot of race tuition money they're willing to put into it, and i'd say they probably know what they're doing. those who have no talent will not progress, those who have talent will do so. |

Im not sure why they picked the Mazda RX8 if they are aiming for the women market, because the rotary RX8 is supposed to be the new RX7 replacement. It comes with 192 or 240ps in road version, so its no MX5.

I was going to mention blonde hairdressers, but having seen Maisie's reply to Bella thought better of it
