Mil Milhas

The interlagos 1000 is nearly here, I have heard it has some big entries (the Fittipaldi family for one), but is there a definitive entry list and does anybody know if it will have live T&S (or any over web coverage in english)?
website is http://www.milmilhasbrasil.com.br but I don't speak the lingo.

I believe that Castroneves is supposed to race down there, as will Vitor Meira and some other Brazilians from open-wheel in North America...

The Mil Milhas is a major event down there....I would love to go to it at some point in my lifetime....

With that kind of line-up, I can easily see it becoming a round of the FIA GT Championship next year, as is, I think, Stephane Ratel's intention.

What a great field. I didn't realize that this was at Interlagos. That seems like a great track for a sportscar race. Should be a good race.

For those who are not aware of the history of this event, it was first held back in 1956....

Although this is the 50th Anniversary year, therre were a few years when it was not held....

The only times that the Mil Milhas was not held at Interlagos were in 1997 (at Brasilia) and 1999 (at Curitiba)...

BTW...the car that Felipe Giaffone is driving, although it is noted as a "ZF - GTP1" I believe is actually an old Riley & Scott Mk.IIIA with a big Chevy V-8 in the back of it...at least that is what he raced in the Mil Milhas last year

Either I am blind, or this is not a complete list of entrants...just a prelimnary one...

Because it is my understanding that the Fittipaldis will be competing...and I'm not seeing them on this list

I also understood that Helio Castroneves and Vitor Meira were possible participants this year as well...

I just had a look at the results the last few years, a Porsche 996-GT3 won in 2003, a Viper GTS-R in 2004, and an Audi TT DTM car in 2005.

Interesting to see that Tom Weickardt participated last year.

Got it, and re-sent the e-mail to you, SFonseca...

I was aware that MCR builds smaller, open-cockpit prototypes (similar to sports racers here in the USA), but I did not know that they built a closed-top car like this...

Is this a new program for MCR???

No, it's an old (2002/2003) project of Luiz Fernando Cruz. Unfortunately he hadn't money to develop correctly the car.

Great tip, this should be a very good race indeed. I noticed Emmo's dad was the first organizer and he drove to South Brazil in his tiny DKW to invite drivers door by door!!! Legendary...
