interesting reading the previous winners at this round.
seems to have thrown up a few wildcards. 2004 : Buddy Rice 2003 : Bryan Herta 2002 : Airton Dare 2001 : Eddie Cheever ok with the exception of Rice the other 3 havent been regular winners in the series so will 2005 throw up yet another strange winner perhaps ??? |

It is a good point marcus...and to be honest, Rice would have been considered something of a 'wildcard' up until his success during the 2004 season. Buddy could probably be considered a wildcard this time around as well.

Maybe this will be the weekend when Ganassi come good? Or perhaps Cheever's team?

As for Ganassi, all of their drivers just seem snake-bitten as of late. The usually hard racing Manning has been horribly uncompetitve, Briscoe just cannot keep it clean on the ovals so far, and Dixon just doesn't seem to care! He has shown zero ability to move through the field or race cleanly within it. Right now he is a backmarker that is no better or safer than AJ Foyt IV. Yes I said it! |

I remember hearing Carpentier saying the engine at Richmond had excellent torque. However I would think that having strong torque at tracks like Kansas would be of little benefit - outright power must be the key factor. It would make sense though that the non-Penske cars have shown strongly on the short-oval at Richmond and the road/street course races/tests - something that could be directly attributed to this feature of the Toyota engines.
IMHO the non-Penske Toyota units still lack outright power relative to Honda and the Panther Chevy's - something that will hinder them this weekend. But then again... |

Carpentier does have experience on Superspeedways, seeing as he raced on a whole bunch of them in the CART series since 1996, so therefore drafting and keeping in the line on the Superspeedways shouldn't be hard for them. All he needs is power and he's good to go. And remember Barron? A spin and a win was his ticket a few years ago.
Speaking of the winners above that Marcus mentioned, whatever happened to Airton Dare..? This should be an interesting race, i am really looking forward to this race, Michigan, and Fontana! |

Excellent job by Rahal team, a 1-2-3.
Ganassi seems to have found something too. |

Wow that is an amzing job by the Rahal team, they had a 1-2 here last year as well. Glad to see Danica on pole.
I was looking at the standings and Hornish is in good postion yet he keeps on making mistakes they were at Indy and Richmond. |

I think the most significant outcome of qualifying is that the non-Penske Toyota engines are still hopelessly underpowered relative to Honda and Chevy. Richmond was clearly representative of that. Must be pretty awful for Red Bull & Cheever to go from top 5 to (almost) propping up the grid.

I don't know about that jock, it seems that Ganassi had it's best qualifying effort in quite some time. Manning came out of nowhere to take the 5th spot, and Dixon finally looked competitve in 7th. I was beginning to write this whole team off. We'll see if they have the race pace though.
I think Danica will fall back from her excellent pole position though. This is a real slice and dice type of race. Good to see Buddy back, isn't it?! A very crazy grid I must say. What's going on with Wheldon? Could he still lose this championship, or will he move to the front? I can't wait! |

My apologies...
I was very late in adding this... But the race is being shown live on TSN (right now!) from 1 - 3:30 PM (ET). |

What an excellent race!
Wheel to wheel action all the way. Well done to Tony Kanaan. And great job too by Vitor Meira - so close at the end but still a win eludes him. |
