The Speed Channel crawl...
Who the hell writes these things?!
I'm referring to that little crawl that Speed Channel puts at the bottom of the screen to tell us that an event's been rained out, like for qualifying tonight. It's hilarious that they'll put such silly messages out there, the lawyers much be having a fit! "That's the plan, anyway." So who writes these? Some intern? It sounds like Dave Despain's style. |

A torrential afternoon practice session in Watkins Glen saw Villeneuve out-qualify everyone. By 11 seconds.Scheckter stated: "I scared myself rigid that day, I thought I had to be quickest. Then I saw Gilles's time and - I still don't really understand how it was possible. Eleven seconds !" |

That was funny -- being rained out is not funny. Although I am enjoying the 1972 F1 race ...
Ought to be a hoot of a race tomorrow if it stops raining. (That is another reason I hate ovals). |

Lee, for those of us not watching Speed Channel, what did the messages say?
I had the chancee of talking with Dave Despain recently, very cool guy, quite knowledgeable (we changed from subject to subject and he kept the rhythm) and not full of himself as motorsport journalists usually are. |

Something along the lines of 'After the last month, a track session being rained out is hardly news. We'll be back tommorrow night at 8:30 with the race... That's the plan, anyhow. In the meantime, here's some more incredible footage from our massive motorsport archives. Now chant with me, "No rain! No rain! No rain!"'
When a NASCAR qualifying session was rained out two weeks ago, they showed the Argentina WRC round, with a message including 'in the meanwhile, we'll treat you NASCAR fans to this awesome WRC footage. Look at these guys!!!' Dave definitly strikes me as a very cool guy. |

I'm just glad to see SPEED has a little respect for those of us watching and waiting. And showing those retro races are always a treat. Keep up the good work SPEED. Also i have to agree with you guys n gals when you say Dave Despain is a cool guy, he has the best commentary on racing that i've seen in years.

Agreed. Twas the first time I've ever seen Dave Despain, and I was really impressed with his style.
And the "crawlers" were great! |

We had them all day yesterday after the F3000 race ran long and all the other stuff was time shifted. It was funny to see this crawler saying "You've probably realised this ain't the show you tuned in to see ... well ... " and it went on to explain that ather than hack up shows to fit the time slot, they were just showing everything as each show ended. It was a great idea and the crawler was funny too.
