Memo Gidley to WC!!

Remember Memo Gidley? He's now going to racing a Ford Focus in the 2004 Speed World Challenge Touring Car class.

Memo was always one of the more popular drivers in the championship - fast, enthusiastic, photogenic and (half-)American. It's a shame he never got a full-season drive because he really looked the part in ChampCars, but at least he's racing again. Good luck to the guy

He'll be great in the SWC -- he loves meeting fans and that's the biggest part of SWC. I'm glad he got the chance to show his stuff.

Really, I didn't see a thread for him? Where was it discussed?

What did you mean he never looked the part? Too young? Did it matter? He raced for Target? OTOH, I guess there's more talented drivers out there than rides so I guess he just wasn't impressive enough!

Ooops, I goofed, my mistake. On another website, there was pure speculation about whether or not Memo would be joined by other ex-CART racers if the OWRS bid failed.

No worries km, I guess we're all a bit over-excited (and perhaps celebrating) with today's news. Those nested quotes could've got confusing though.

Haha - you scared me to death! I'm still thinking of WC as Winston Cup, which is now Nextel Cup of course. That's great news for Memo!

It's too bad he wasn't driving something a little higher level, but regardless it will be good to see him at it.

And if he's driving, he may get other offers... you never know!

It's such a shame to see drivers who have talent like Memo never get a (proper) opportunity in ChampCars that he deserves! Instead we have the pleasure of watching drivers like Lavin and Boss...

I'd rather have the pleasure of watching Josh Bealieau!

He's a member of my NR2003 online racing league. If thats considered moving up. I will ask him when I see him online next what his plans for this year are. He just joined my league so I haven't had time to ask him.

Thanks for the info. We'd better stop talking about Josh now. Either that or start another thread for him.

For all Memo Gidley fans, tune in to www.rfmsports.com next weekend and you will see an interview by Mr. Gidley with a couple of new photos. We have told him we'll alert his many fans.
