New to the forum/Roll Call

This the a kind of, 'Welcome' thread to the Trackdays section.

If you are new, then please post here and tell us a bit about yourself, what car(s) you have, and your experience etc. This is for existing trackday'ers too!

Oh yes, and a definitive 'Welcome to the forum!'

I guess I'm new , sorta...
I have a 1995 5.0 Mustang that I've highly modded. It started out at 215 hp and is now running about 410 hp. It was my daily driver , and I used to drag race it ,but now it's a summer cruiser. My daily driver is an 2002 SVT Focus. Last year I competed in Solo 2 for the first time with the Focus. I finnished third in G/Stock. I also
went to some track lapping events.Next year I'm going to compete in Solo 2 again , in the same class, to get some more experience.

Well proving you dont need a quick car i have a 1998 citroen saxo vtr and all ive done to it is add a K&n filter (helps on the daily long motorway runs) and replaced the front pads with Tar.ox ones.

My vast experience consists of only having done Knockhill twice as every other circuit seems to charge £150-200+ even though its the furthest track to where i live!

Anyway, hello everyone

Hello,

I'm Alex from Berkshire in the UK and I'm a automotive engineer working for Ford at the moment.

I've been doing trackdays since 1998 (I think) but not in huge numbers, so far been too:

Castle Coombe
Thruxston
Brands Hatch
Goodwood
Wroughton
Bedford Autodrome
Bassingbourn
Bruntingthorpe

My current trackday car is a mini with a 1.3 turbo engine
www.afracing.com/minit.htm lots of pics and a write up on there.

Other cars I've used on track (and own!) are a 1992 RS2000 and a Vauxhall Firenza HPF.

Im Paul from Derbyshire and also Norfolk. im an Avionic Technician in th RAF, I work on an aircraft front line Tornado GR4 Squadron. Im going to get my competition licence this year.

Ive a 1992 VW Corrado G60 as my daily driver but it is currently running without the G60 supercharger due to it blowing up soon after I bought the car - I wasn't too happy since the charger didn't show any signs of pending doom.(

Im currently building and is now very nearly completed a 1991 VW Polo G40 for use on track days and possible racing in 2005 depending on what engine is allowed. Its based on a VW Polo G40 Super Coupe Cup race car, and has all the race car's chassis and handling mods but with a slightly modified engine.

Spec: 1272cc rebored to 1308cc, lightened, balanced, forged pistons, flywheel etc. Race ported head with solid lifters revving to 8000rpm. Fully ported, flowed and polished G40 supercharger, aquamist 1s. Good for over 200bhp )

Full rollcage, sparco seat, 6point harness, fully stripped out interior with usual race car safety features. Weighs 730kg dry.
G40 Race Cup Car suspension.
Audi 256mm front brakes, standard golf 16v discs with ferodo DS3000 Pads, tilton Lever Type Adjustable Brake Bias Regulator.
Thinking about sticking 229mm rear discs on it.
14" compomotive MO's
And I need a Ricardo LSD for my gearbox!

Ive done a few track days in my old Polo G40 but that was in 1999-2000 and at Castle Combe only. So I havent been doing it in a few years, Im very keen to get out this year as much as possible on the track although I consider my myself a total track novice.

Welcome to 10Tenths Paul. I love the G40 Polo, I used to go to Cadwell Park and watch them in the Super Coupe Cup - nice.

Looks like you have a good setup there. It should fly on track.

Me & my Motors

Ok. My name is Dom and I'm a newbie to all things racing.

I've harboured a desire to race since I was very young and as usual got carried away doing lots of other things until the Mrs. got me an Audi Trackday at Brands for xmas in 2002 - that brought all those desires back and in Nov I decided to take the plunge.

I bought a BMW 325 that has been racing in the Kumho series and I have set about getting instruction and as many outings as possible to date. Got my ARDS in early Feb and the car is being delivered to a reputable car prep co next week for an overhaul in prep for more trackdays and the upcoming Kumho BMW series - Can't bloody wait.

I've done quite a few things in my life but nothing that excites me like the prospect of a seasons racing.

The website - www.bigdracing.com should be up and running soon so check it out

From West Midlands
cars at present - new Avensis D-4D (company car), BMW E36 325i (she drives that)
past cars - tracked a 205 1.9Gti and 106 Rallye, various trackdays and a couple of hill climbs and sprints (nothing serious)
looking to get another 205 for trackdays and road rallies.
Will be very low budget due to expanding family.

Hi I'm from Surrey, currently own 2 cars: a very boring Peugot 206 that I use for daily transport a 911 GT3 Mk1 (in Speed Yellow) that I use at weekends.

I have owned the GT3 since February and intend to do a few trackdays at some point. Fantastic car and it's a Clubsport model with a full rollcage, recaro bucket seats and a sports exhaust.

This is my third Porsche, having previously owned a 944 turbo and a 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe. Prior to that I owned a variety of hot hatches, the best of which was a 205 GT1 1.9.

Never done a track day in my own car though a couple of years back I attended a couple of trackdays arranged by a Porsche Dealer (one at Brands & the other at Thruxton)where I got to drive a varirty of Boxter's & 911's accompanied by an instructor. In addition I have had numerous passenger rides at circuits including Brands, Mallory Park and Snetterton in my mates TVR and recently had a ride in another GT3 at Goodwood.

Hello

I have 4 cars - one boring, one slow, one to nice and too big an engine (on my licence) to compete and my sprint car.

I sprint and hilclimb - slowly! I sued to do National B Rallys but gave up

I don't hthink I've done a proper track day but I've done test days instead.

I am Mark.
Live in the Midwest USA.
Track days for the last 11 years with the VW,BMW,Porsche, Lotus and highspeed roadcourse sprints.
Autox(US style) since I bought a '77 Rabbit(Golf) in 1983.

Current garage vermin:
1, 2001 Zetec powered Birkin S3 se7en clone.
2, '91 BMW M3.

As soon as the Greed, speculation, and the lack of US Lotus dealer ethics wanes away, I hope to own a Federal Lotus Elise and cut the stable down to 2 cars.

Jon Davis

I'm a professional engineer working for Ricardo designing Automotive engines (previous work incl Clio V6 Series 2 and BMW Mini Cooper S engines)

I have owned a FFord 1600 for about 8 years and have moved from Sprinting to Racing . . . though have had a sparse year this year having planted it well and truely into the tyres at Brands at the end of May. I will be back up and running for the Walter Hayes event at Silverstone at the beginning of Noovember.

Recently purchased a 993 C4 and will be doing some Airfield Trackdays in the near future. See my other recent post for info.

Will be out in the Porsche this weekend at the Brighton Speed trials (All day Saturday on Madera Drive, Brighton Sea Front . . . if anyone is in the area . . . entry 135 and 136).

Hi I'm Stuart, a 12 year old kid in a 38 year old body & feeling evryone of those 38 years after tonights game of footy. I live in Redditch, Worcestershire & until recently had spent my entire working life in aerospace engineering mostly as a development technician, I have now escaped & spend my days developing properties.

After my teens I was never particularly interested in cars (had a spell with bikes including some track days) but rather strangly I've recently found myself watching & recording loads of motor racing off sky tv, then started talking to some friends who do autograss, browsing the internet, looked into Caterham Academy for 2006 (2005 already full), bought Autosport & subscribed to Circuit Driver all in the space of about 3 weeks.

Anyway I decided 2006 was to long to wait to get on track & after looking at the attendee lists on easytrack & seeing the diversity in machinary I was satisfied that my standard Mini Cooper was good enough for trackdays & fully intended to enrol on the Mallory Park event on 6th November.

Then last Saturday I read about this Honda Civic called the Type R, I had a test drive on Monday & tomorrow (....is that the time, actually later today) the Cooper is being chopped in, unfortunatly I've got to to run around in a Civic S demonstrator for a couple of weeks while they sort out my leather interior.

The plan now is to take delivery of my new Type R, run it in & get my first (car) track day in before the end of november, in the meantime I'll keep browsing looking at Nobles, Ultimas, Radicals, XTR's, Caterhams etc & of course getting on the forum.

Cheers, Stuart.

Just joined this forum. I have been racing the last 32 years, both Rally and on track. Now I run a driving technique and track day company in my spare time www.activedriving.dk I'm located in Denmark close to Copenhagen. Cars Subaru Impreza turbo and a Alfasud TI from 1980. The Alfa is a full equiped racecar, but engine is under rebuild. This has now taken me several years and in the meantime the Impreza is used as trackday car.
