IRL - Infineon Raceway (PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy Grand Prix)
Just been trying to find some stats on the the changes made to Infineon Raceway. I know they had a test day on 14th Aug but have not seen anything published on times or speeds.
Can anyone help?? Changes article here |

You'll notice that Turn 7 is now more tighter than the previous year. As you can see by the red section in the picture that is the new Turn as the previous was the white section above it. Apparently it will create a new overtaking area. Judging by reports from the group test a few people had problems coming to grips with the new corner and the braking zone for it. Should make for a good race!! |

It's not exactly a new section. They're just using that last portion of the drag strip instead of bypassing it. Honestly though, I don't see this helping anything. They still don't use the Turn 11 hairpin. They have that chicane before Turn 10, and Turn 7 was already a reasonably tight turn. Thus, I don't see the tighter turn really helping overtaking.

Why are they running with that asinine chicane preceding turn 10? Must any corner on any race track which is exciting in the least be ruined? Why, racing gods, why?

They don't run the final hairpin because it would be too hard of a braking zone with no runoff.

And that's a load of bull. If they ran without the chicane and used Turn 11, the stats are roughly thus. You have 1550lb approaching at ~160mph as compared to another series where you have 3400lb approaching the hairpin at ~130mph. So, how do the momentum equations look to you? (I think most of us already know the answer to that one.)
