Indys score manufacturer points?
in 91 ford scored manufacturer points even though there where no works cars.
i think that all makes in the series should get manufacturer points, this year will (hopefully) have indy bmws, alfas, and a nissan (see hmm.. interesting addition thread). What happens if an alfa or bmw wins a race? its going to look pretty weird from a casual viewers point of view to then see that BMW have logged 0 points in the manufacturers. Providing the manufacturer has registered to score points, paid the appropriate entry fee, and nominated which cars are elligable then it makes no difference if they are works or indy cars.
I doubt Alfa or BMW will bother to register though. Not sure exactly what the situation will be this year but I believe if a non-registered car finishes first the points for the 'win' go to the highest placed registered entry. (Don't have a copy of the regs to hand and can't think of many occations in the recent past that it's been an issue.) |

At Brands, end of 2001 when MG won the race I believe Vauxhall got the full points for the "win".

As did the drivers. Different kettle of fish though, to the non-works cars finishing in the top 10.

Matt Neal in 00 won a race at brands(?) when there where no works nissans, i guess all the points went to the next placed finisher.

That MG win was different though - MG were only entering those races to help them develop the car, and thus weren't eligable for championship points of any description.
From the comapnies' perspectives, it might look better if they don't get included on the manufacturers' championship points ist, than if they are there but lower down - 'casual observers' will think they've failed, without appreciating that the cars are ran without official support. |
