Why is Carlin F3 so dominant ?

Why is this team so dominant, I know they have been around a while, and I guess they have good engineers, and enough money to feed a country but havent some of the other F3 teams as well ?, after spending quite substancial amounts of time looking around this team nothing obvious jumps out as the area of performance, it looks well run and tidy but the cars viewed close up at post donnington race are 'shabby' in appearance. So what then ?

Any views ?????

I think the words "Junior" arm of BAR might just help you. Extreme talent in crew and money put in the right places.

so who funds Carlin then? is it 100% on the drivers heads or does the team have their own sponsors? Does BAR just provide technical support (ie- engineers and machanics) or do they develop the cars?

it doesn't hurt that they seem to be first in the queue to sign the best drivers too.

Are you sure on that one, ok so Davidson&Sato are test drivers but that dont imply a junior team.

There are a lot of very experianced guys there, Ex mclaren and the core guys are very very experienced. That is Trevor Carlin, Steve Hollman and Martin Stone.

think about it 4 drivers in f3, 2 in world series.
plus there importer for all dallara spares etc.

Very experienced engineers and mechanics, whom have worked in F3 for a long time and also F1 via about 6 different teams. Don't forget good drivers, drivers will always try and sign for a winning team, so a team like Carlin will never be short of drivers wanting to sign. As for a 'Junior' team I heard of various links but they don't seem to have any direct links. As for Mr Jensen's point that the cars looked 'shabby', don't forget that they'd just finished a race!

ok so a nicely sprayed, clean and polished car looks good, but its the engineering of the car that matters.

5 key parts. MONEY, DRIVERS, CHASSIS, ENGINE, TEAM

all of those need to be a high standard to achieve results.
A new team can get good cars, have good drivers, and a top notch engine but if the team hasn't a clue about setup then none of those factors will come together and produce results.
Take SYR for example, nice cars but where are the results.

Motorsport is all bout reputation, Carlin have a good one, and drivers are attracted to them. Well funded ones who can provide security for themselves and the team....

There hasnt been a BAR driver at Carlin since 2001. What ever are you talking about?


Its the revolving door policy. The best drivers go to a team, that team has good results, which attracts the best drivers the next year, etc etc.

Given a choce 99% of the grid would ask for a Carlin car.
