Scott Speed Confirmed As 2006 Race Driver
F1 Live is reporting that Red Bull has confirmed American Scott Speed as a regular race driver for one of the Red Bull teams for 2006.
The first American in F1 since my neighbor; Mario's kid. http://f1.racing-live.com/f1/en/ I really think this kid will stick it out as he seems to be totally devoted to getting to and staying in F1 with drives in GP2 and A1GP. Good luck Scott! |

Well, good luck to him. At least, he's got a strong name.

Good, this will go some way to repairing this years tyre fiasco at Indy, hopefully getting some interest from the US market (most of whom sadly are blissfully unaware of the world beyond their borders).

Lets not jump in here - that's a slightly erroneous agency report.
It's based on a statement from Christian Horner which named five drivers - DC, Klien, Liuzzi, Speed and Jani. Aside from Coulthard leading RBR they haven't officially confirmed who's in which of the two teams and who's racing. |

At least they've edited the report - the first version I saw on Yahoo last night identified Coulthard as 'a native of England'.

DC's British when he goes well, and Scottish when he crashes.

Good deal to have an American back in the series. I just started paying attention to Formula 1 this year, so it's nice that I'll have someone from my country to root for now.

I'll be amazed if Scott Speed isn't in a race seat next year, with Red Bull marketing the kid he should be a license to print money come Indy.

And not to mention the purely country based distribution of football codes, which works the same way for non-American countries. |

From what I read, it should be DC & Klien in RBR, Liuzzi & Speed in the Toro Rosso team and Jani as a 3rd driver for Firdays.

If so, then the Red Bull junior team has a strong line up unlike Minardi's usual line up with fill in drivers with money.

Presumably Toro Rosso would be able to use a Friday 3rd driver as well (assuming the rule stays the same) - perhaps Katherine Legge can get this role (purely due to talent, not publicity potential, of course).

Why Alex would want to race a pram is beyond me...

As I say, why he would want to race a pram is beyond me.
If he gets the chance to race for Toro Rosso, then he should take it. I fear you've missed my subtle little joke... |

I am not "blissfully unaware" of the world outside of the US!! Why I know without even looking that Inglund is right over there beside Yoorop in the ocean somewheres!
Sheesh! I hope Scott gets a race seat, but things seem a bit unsettled yet with many driver's agents making prophetic statements in the hope that they might come true for their driver! I am not sure that having an American in the series will automatically garner media attention here. To be honest, it would take something spectacular/splashy like a pole at Monaco or a win to get a high level of attention (unfortunately!). |
