Holden Steering (Rack and Pinion) Failures
Technically, is there any clear reason why the steering components of the Holden is failing more often then the Ford?
Is it because the front wheel assembly is "further exposed" than the Ford steering setup? Is the steering rack and pinion setup in a different location to the Ford or is it just built by a different supplier and crappier engineering? I ask this because in the normal argy-bargy of first lap "posturing" the Holden's get bent in the frontend geometry seemingly more than the Ford setup! Mike |

Maybe you should ask Bright and Ingall how their front Suspension is?
You having a go or just watching those great Red Cars with the Blue glasses?? |

Also, Ingall gave Winterbottom a tap on his steering in race 1 and that broke Winterbottoms steering (remember he couldn't turn it into pit lane).

Morris cars have always had a weakspot in their steering gear strength

I take it you are not referring to Paul when you say a "weak spot", VD?

No.. the steering system in a PMM chassis seems to be somehow weaker in design than say an HRT car. I have no idea why this is as I have never seen the whole system up close, but the Rusty accident in Adelaide with Radisich, and the slight touch between Morris/Menu at Bathurst last year, and countless other minor taps that seems to break bits on the PMM chassis more than most others suggests there may be a problem with some part of the design.
Paul is not a weak link.. if it wasnt for him, there would be 4 less cars on the grid, and we would be down to 27. How would you like them apples? |

Also...it seems as though that moving back of the radiator to cheat the parity tests may have had further implications not originally thought of...just a thought

This subject has been bought up before, and iirc it was mentioned by Cromly around the Barbegello round last year |

and I guess one cannot accept, with an ounce of credit, Vd's suggestion of a steering gear weak link at PMM without a confirmation from the team of a failure in either helix.
