Wakefield Konicas
http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=i0...3&view=fastest
Hrmmm, Crick, Brede, Dumbrell, Simpson, White in the first practice session. Maybe the season will be much more competitive than I thought? Certainly there are a lot of cars on or near the pace... |

Yeah, they say that every where these days. Procar has the record with about 11,000 I think. So I guess they'll 13-14 thousand, when there will be about 4-5 thousand. Thats Avesco for you. Off the konica;s for a moment. I was watching ATCC races from 92, 95 and 96 recently and there crowds looked just about the same and in some places more bigger than now, Bathurst included. But somehow Avesco keep on saying how the sport has grown 50-60 % since then. Another example. Adelaide 1999, I think it was 119,000. 2002 171,000. Can u spot the difference , I couldn't.

Quick and important question. Daylight saving, I am getting picked up at 8.30 to go to the konicas tomorrow and just was told that daylight savings finished tonight. Is this true.
Please help |

What a fantastic day. I was betting against Dare Brede all day but he kicked ass. Mr Harris in the other ford had one hell of a day after he qualified 18th, that boy can drive.
I spent all day in the konica corporate tent and had one fun time. Wayne wakefield can drive, he had a fantastic race but is mad little station wagen gave up in the dying laps. Also the managaer and owner of car 110 (driver was johnson) has a good day. First race eva and he finished in the top ten, had a good chat to his wife and they seemed like good people. Still ****ed as heaps of crownies. Good fun had by all (exept Ferrier who packed up her bags and went home) |

Ferrier - Owner of the car - Garth Tander - advised about 50 minutes before start of race that 'engine problems' caused withdrawal of car from the meeting. If you have a look at our main page - http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=i0201 - you will notice we posted the cars that withdrew and the time they notified officials. |

The track owner and management would have to be asking themselves if it was all worth it after the poor crowd that turned out for the Sunday races. At best there was 4 thousand of which a 1/4 would be support races team/crew people. I was talking to Garry W. on Friday and he was telling me of some of the costs that the track had to endure to have the "lites" there for the weekend. I will not be surprised to find out that they have lost a packet from the weekend which is not good for them. It is sad to see a track like the "Park" lose a lot of money trying to put on a show like AVESCO demand. They have so many bulls*** requests and demands as well as the extra costs involved it is unbelievable what they want the promotors to do. It will be interesting to see how many go to the next Konica round.
The biggest field of cars on the weekend was the Improved Production boys in their Interstate Challenge Series. It was great to see Wayne W. in the 808 Wagon and Ken D. in the RX7 mixing it up. The Saloon cars also had a big field for their first national round. |

Thats a tad sad, Wakefield Park is a great track and should be more respected by all people in motorsport. Does anyone have the full results list ?

gmontrack - fair go really. Formula Ford and Porsche were the onl;y two categories that didn't have full grids entered. Konicas originally had 31 entries (capacity 32) which became 38 on Saturday - for any criticism I have of V8's IMHO the turn out was good - not exactly quality entries, but quantity. Commodores, Improoved and Prod Sports were all fully subscribed. Normal attrition then took over (as usually happens at ANY race meeting.)

Racetime. I don't disagree, I was not trying to take anything away from the V8 boys, they put on three really good races. I was just giving the other ones abit of a plug.

Remember when WP was a club racing circuit?

There didn't seem to be much promotion for the event, so a small crowd doesn't really suprise me. I wonder what the AVESCO crowd figures will be?
