2CV 24hr

Anyone else get along to this? Was pretty interesting but not quite the real deal (ie LM!) but what on earth caused the timing to go down for 7 hours in the night?! For those of you who weren't there this 7 hour period was wiped from the results and the two 'sessions' either side added together to give the end result. Madness.

Well done to the Practical Classics car for entering! It finished something like 267 laps off the lead but it kept us entertained! Prize for rallycrosser of the day though has to go to the Top Gear car!

I'm told that Ben Collins was spotted in black overalls and crash hat... hmmm

Ben Collins was racing in the Top gear car, but as himself and with his usual helmet! The stig was unable to make it in the end (sure had nothing to do with driving at Le Mans!) But very enjoyable weekend, just shattered and sunburnt now! But great spirit shown by many, including teams loaning other team sengines so they could finish! ... 12 minute engine changes!!

Had a major hayfever attack on Saturday and I'm going to be very sore for a few days with sunburn but what a blast.

Practical Classic boys got a huge cheer as they rolled into the pitlane at the end. Ok, so they werer a million laps team but they stayed until the very end. How many LM teams in a similar situation would have packed up and gone home long before dawn.

Heard a suggestion that the timing outage may have been how to a local pirate radio station. apparantly the same thing had happened at the same time on Fri night during the night test session. There was some talk of protests but with no independent lap charts for the missing time it's difficult to know what else to do. Maybe the race should have been stopped and re-started whe things were sorted.

Well done to Chris Y, MaxxUK and Christine Savage in the Team Stinky entry who finished 12th. Expect to see Chris in a "we beat the Stig" t-shirt shortly.

It was a GREAT weekend wasn't it? Hot, friendly and highly entertaining.

I saw Ben Collins AND Dan Eaves there - both were "replacement" stigs for the weekend! I have it on good authority that Eaves qualified the Top Gear car and then Ben Collins raced it. Interestingly, a little boy and his father informed me each time I saw them during the weekend that Ben Collins had been signing autographs as "Stig"!!

But it was a great result for Team Stinky - good to see Team Yellow Peril doing so well after Neil Thompson's mishap early on.

Must go and catch up on my sleep now.

And well done to a certain Mr Alan Gow racing in car 97. Haven't got a clue where you finished but was quite impressed with the whole event. I am absolutley shattered but what a blast of a weekend.

They gave the results on RLM? Da,m, missed that. Anyway Congrats to all those who competed in and/or finished the event. I'm determined to make it to the event one of these days, I just need the ACO to see sense and move the "other" one to a different weekend!

So did a "Stig" race or not? so far it's been Ben Collins, Dan Eaves, and No-One!!! Interestingly, Perry was questioned several times over the weekend, and has still yet to actually deny that he is/was The Stig.

Not as sore as me

Just got back this afternoon, after staying over on the Sunday night. Bit disappointed that there wasn't much of a 'party atmosphere' in the paddock, but the bar closed fairly early, so most people either went off-site to a pub, or home.

The atmosphere was pretty good all weekend - nice and friendly in the paddock, but most teams were pretty busy, with engine changes and the like so there wasn't a lot of socialising going on, and not much beer flowing either.

I would have liked to have seen more racing from the spectator areas, and seen more of people who came to watch, but I'm afraid I had to stay with the team and help out/be ready for any problems that might arise. Sorry

I did see a bit of the night racing from Russell - very impressive, and I was surprised just how much you could see from inside the car during the night. I certainly had no problems, but then I had a team that are pretty expert at the annual 24hours - they know how to set up light pods!

12th place was our 'offical' result, bt I actually believe that we would have been higher if the timing wasn't bust between 9pm and 5am. Quite a few teams had long stops in the night, and the results don't reflect this, whereas 'Stinky' ran pretty flawlessly for the whole 24hours, requiring only fuel and driver stops - no garage work at all

We were one of just 2 cars in the event not to change engine or gearbox (There were 5 engine changes in the first hour-and-a-half!) and we only completely used 2 tyres from a fresh set. Brakes were superb and still lots of meat on them. Suspension survived with kingpins intact. Almost no panel damage apart from a minor ding in the bonnet (Malc admitted to it ) and a tyre mark on the rear offside wing. Stinky has had more wear and damage in sprint races!

Racing was good. There were a few people trying to 'block' during the race, which is pointless, since it slows both cars down. The idea is to let faster cars past and then get the tow off them on the straights. A good tow earns you about 2-3 seconds a lap around Snett and there were regularly chains of 3-4 cars towing each other around and taking turns at the front - good stuff!

I've never done more than a 30 minute race before, so I was a bit apprehensive about doing a 2 hour run, but once you've gone past 15 minutes in the car, you don't really notice too much because you get into a nice rhythm, especially if there's other cars around you to concentrate on and co-operate with. Night time sessions were very cool and almost peaceful. Great experience which I wish more club racers could experience. A bit difficult at first with headlights shining in your mirrors (and not being able to tell how far people are behind you) but great when you settle into the routine..

Anyway - must stop writing now! Waaaay too much to talk about after a weekend like that... I'm sure Malcolm (MaxxUK) will add to it once he recovers

I could only attend for the first couple of hours and back for the last hour before the finish. On the way back to watch the finish I wondered how many would still be circulating, especially with so many engine changes in the first hour. Well done to all concerned and great to see so many of the cars make it to the end.
The racing was fantastic, especially in the early laps despite the low 2cv speeds. Who would have thought this was going to be a 24 hour event? More like a 10 lap sprint with about eight cars fighting for the lead!
Must have been awfully hot in there Chris, with the overalls / helmet on etc. You don't get too many days at Snett when the weather is like that!

Is there a website where the results are?

After 38 hours straight, didnt really acknowledge where we actually ended up, well at least with the ballsed up results.

Just our luck though, for the night stints we ran clean and quikc, then as soon as the timing comes back on **BANG** engine change! although we got it perfected down to about 13 -14 minutes........

I had never even seen our car before friday afternoon, now i can start up my own 2cv repair shop........
