2017 World Touring Car Championship calendar

It's time for WTCC silly season!

http://www.touringcartimes.com/2016/...wtcc-calendar/

Quote:
Volvo would welcome a return to the USA on the World Touring Car Championship calendar

But it's not a priority for the WTCC’s newest manufacturer Citroën, which doesn’t have a presence in the US market, nor was it a priority for Honda (IndyCar, IMSA)

Promoter Francois Ribeiro says it would need a high profile driver to draw the fans to the event

"Fans do not react to brands, they react to heroes, the drivers."

"I have many names in mind. But if I had to pick one it would not be a man"
No it's not Simona de Silvestro, or Sabine Schmitz, much less Pippa Mann.

He means Danica Patrick. But she's a Chevy girl, so forget about it.
(Actually, she could enter the Daytona 24, but that's another story.)

Anyway, if Volvo wants to do racing in the United States, they should return to the Pirelli World Challenge.

Back to the WTCC, visiting the United States makes no sense. The V8 Supercars failed, and those are, you know, V8. Who would go to see Pechito López drive a Citroën at Austin or Long Beach?

Portland has been starved for ANY major series, so you might have a better shot at getting a hold if WTCC went there. It's also a shorter, though reasonably quick, circuit, so a better fit for those cars than some of the bigger tracks.

They should partner up with WEC for that NA event (especially if WEC were to dump and exchange the farce that is COTA for something half decent).

And FIA should axe the rule where two world championship series couldn't simultaneously race together in same country for some season.

WEC officials were present at the Indy 500, apparently they're looking at the road course as an alternatieve to COTA. Don't think it'd be a very good track for WTCC cars though.

Id like to see wtcc coming back to race in Brazil rather than usa where there is not at all passion for this kind of race.
Moreover i hope marrakech will make big change to that s*** of circuit. It was horrible before and now its even worst! I like the idea to make an event with 24h of nurburgring but imho i think its better and also bit more spectacular if they race on f1 track rather than 3 laps on green hell.
Then other thing that i cant stand is why continue to race in that city circuit in Portugal when u have beautiful track like algrave or estoril.

And at the end i hope wtcc will come back to monza asap

I agree with a few items there, but I can't concur with the rest, Iceman.

Brazil is fine, and either Curitiba or Goiania would fit the bill, or maybe the short course at Brasilia.

Also, what they did to Marrakech was painful. They NEED to fix that somehow, or find a different African venue. Kyalami in South Africa has just been refurbished.

Now, the rest of your post, I can't go along with it. The Nordschleife is GREAT. I FAR prefer that to seeing these cars just do the GP layout. I'd rather see the WTCC go to the Sachsenring than do just the GP Circuit at the Nurburgring, or the Tilkefied version of Hockenheim.

As with the Nurburgring, I'm not real keen on either Estoril or Algarve with the WTCC. These cars just don't have the presence to "fill the circuit up" at Portimao. I don't really care for Estoril with much of anything, since they remodeled it for MotoGP back in 1999-2000.

Vila Real, in its shortened form, is still WILD. Even just watching Qualifying there is more exciting than the races at some circuits. Furthermore, they are supposed to loosen up a couple of the chicanes at Vila Real for this year, which should definitely help.

Having the WTCC at Monza, or Enna-Pergusa, would be alright, but I'd be MUCH more excited to see them back at the Salzburgring.

Nurburgring is great, because even the dullest race is spectacular on that track

Well my thought was focus on overtaking and on supporters and this is why i cant understand how can they make races in marrakech or vila real which there is no possibility to overtake and the race is almost finished after the start? And ofc we could even talk about costs for the team when one car crash into the wall

This, this, thisthisthisthis.

Vila Real is AWESOME.

Like, RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME.

they really should remove all three of the chicanes. If they can race on the narrowness of the ring, and F1 can run at Monaco, WTCC should be fine at a de-neutered Vila Real.
