Jordygirl should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The official campsite was out by the Sheldon Road entrance, but I know of quite a few marshals who camped inside the inner paddock last year, Next to what used to me Race Admin. and the Totem Pole ! Glad to see we have at least 1 new marshal for the Rock this year. Welcome aboard

To anyone marshalling Rockingham this season, you're all more than welcome to join us for a drink & a very good meal at the Castle Inn on A6003 Main Street, Caldecott (about 5-10 mins drive from circuit, see map link below). They also do accomodation if you need a bed for the night (not the cheapest but damn convenient for the bar!). All very welcome

Al.

Been to the Castle many years ago as i remember it was a good place then.
I lived at north Luffenham at the time we used to wonder up to Corby most nights.
Think i will pop in when i do Rockingham this year....

I only live 20 mins from The Rock but I will be camping a few times this year. The crews work well into the night preping the cars and they don't mind being there.

I seem to remember there is a fully equiped camp site down by the river in Caldecott. As Jordygirl says, camping in the inner paddock, a bit stoney though. There is also camping behind the turn one grandstand next to the outer paddock good grass but a bit of a slope. Take your pick!

Haven't been there for a few years.I've either had a Travelodge or dossed in the car in the outer paddock.
The 'official' campsite wasn't getting many rave reviews at the time ,things might have changed since then though

Are any circuit (or any other) campsites 100% safe? The very nature of a tent makes them vunerable-leave valubles in the car.

Sorry, can't think of any of the circuits that I do that have marshals-only areas -

Cadwell: open field at edge of paddock out of sight from the circuit
Donington: Shared camping/public carparking out of sight from the circuit
Silverstone: Shared camping/open paddock (except gp)
Croft: Shared camping/open paddock out of sight from the circuit
Mallory: Shared camping/open paddock with no facilities

Like Stack said, the preferred option for camping at Rockingham is on the grassed area in the outer paddock (near where the safety teams caravans are, behind the T1 grandstand). The outer paddock is completely fenced in and shouldn't get the general public wandering around it and is the most secure that I know of at the circuits I visit. Vehicle access to the Inner paddock isn't guaranteed due to space issues, which is why Daves Minibus Service runs from the car park to/from sign-on during the meetings

As said Rockingham has a marshals (& safety crew) camping area that is inside a fence in the outer paddock. I've visisted a couple of times and always been provided with a cold beer! It seems to be very popular.

Some people chose to camp inside the paddock which is on an open grass area - that is their choice.

As I'm sure you know ockingham is a "new" circuit built on a steelworks in the middle of Corby, it's not Silverstone or Donington which are in the middle of grassy open countryside. The setup is always going to be different.

Edited to add: other than the gp what circuits do you consider have "secure" facilities?

I've e-mailed the cheif marshal to see if something official can be sorted before the start of the season. Watch this space.

I hope it will be as with all Rockingham meetings being weekenders this would probebly encourage more marshals to come.

To add to Al's list...(and thanks for the minibus plug ! )

Brands Hatch-dedicted camp site with general public-no facilities.

Just to add, another newbie keen to do a rock meet, and secure camping would certainly be a plus!

Oulton has security staff at the bigger meets for Marshal's areas, although I can't say nothing has ever gone missing, it certainly should dissuade the low life.

I was at Rockingham yesterday, couldn't see many areas ideal for camping... a few grassy bits, but personally I wouldn't want to camp there. I suppose there are a few grassy bits in the middle that would be OK, the ground is really soft when you do get it.

A secure campsite is impossible only "trust" I had a phone nicked at Snett last year at a Toca meeting . This was at night when the gates were shut and the public wer'nt there . So don't trust anyone . Its a terrible slight on modern society but gone are the days when you could leave your van open so your mates could borrow anything.

Just had an email from Drew Furlong of the BRSCC which says......

"Been thinking about this and have the following suggestion:

There is no official campsite at rockingham. Now they have said they will be providing a shower block this year. Where this will be am unsure. The number of marshals looking to camp is probably going to be small so I would suggest the grass area between med centre and scrutineering bay. That way they have same access to facilities as the drivers. Now we have the problem of vehicle access as we will still have inner paddock as only accessible by special pass either 'Inner Paddock' or 'AAA Red Pass'. Can we therefore find out or let marshals know that they will need to request one of the above passes in order to camp."

So there you have it. I personaly think this location is more secure than behind turn 1 but Drew goes on to say that he has no problem with marshals camping there. Newcomers to The Rock must be aware that there is no bar/food outlet other than the burger bar on race days so food and BEER will have to be brought in.

Below are extracts from the BRSCC Rockingham Newsletter for March.

Quote:
As I stated above, if you do want to attend as a marshal, please fill out and send in your availability
form to Keith Jones. The form can be downloaded from the website and Keith’s contact details are already
on there. It goes without saying that we can use all the marshals we can get so coax/bring/kidnap anyone
you can think off who is looking for a good day’s entertainment.
I know already from some of the forums that some marshals have enquired about camping at Rockingham.
We are proposing to use the grass area between the Med Centre and the Scrutineering Bay for marshals
camping only. If you do wish to camp at Rockingham for the weekend, please contact Keith and he will let
you have the appropriate pass.
Logistics for signing on will be as in 2006 in Garage 2 with radios/phones/headsets from Garage 1. Keith has
informed me that signing-on will be from 07.45 to 08.15. As in the latter meetings of 2007, we will again
supply a variety of food, water and fruit which marshals are welcome to help themselves too. This will be
available at signing on.
Quote:
We have heard on the grapevine that Rockingham will be installing a shower block for the 2007 meetings.
Apologises to the mods for the cut and paste.

Can anyone let me know how to attach a PDF file.
