Two More For Our Side!

Today's Toronto Sun announces the following:

Quote:
The icy war of words between Patrick Carpentier and Forsyth Racing is over. The Joliette Que. Native has a deal to race the full 2004 Champ Car World Series schedule with the taem, his agent confimed yesterday. ... Carpentier will join Tracy and Lavin at Sebring International Raceway tomorrow to start testing for the 2004 season.

***

MiJack Racing co-owner Eric Bachelart will announce today he has signed Formula One driver Ralph Firman to a one-eyar contract to race Champ Cars. Firman, 28, raced for Jordan's F1 team in 2003.
There's more to the article but that's the important stuff.

Hurrah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to champ car's site it is Wilson. Autosport is reporting that Firman has signed with Nissan.

Looks like the Toronto Sun and EB wanted Firman to be the "second" car at Conquest. That would be super if it can happen. Possibly the Firman deal with Nissan isn't a "done deal"

I think they heard a rumour that a British F1 driver had signed and then jumped to their own conclusions without finding out the truth

Firman identifies himself as Irish in any case, as his mother Angela is Irish.

Firman is headed to the Superfund World Series, racing with Gabord Competition. First race is this weekend if I'm not mistaken, at Jarama.

Good luck to Ralph, would've been nice to see him in CC, but that series did wonders for Ricardo Zonta's career after he was dumped on the F1 scrapheap (offered a testing deal after he blizted the competitton!)

Even new Champ Car signing Justin Wilson spent a year over there after winning the F3000 title, but before his F1 ride last year, so I hope it works out well for him!!

And yeah, lets give him some time to adapt first eh?

So....as to where the Toronto sun got their "scoop"
Interesting!....

They're NA$CAR people. They get a lot of things wrong. (They listed the drivers for Forsythe as Paul Tracy and Roberto Lavin, for one thing.

ESPN covered Mi-Jack's announcement that Justin Wilson signed with them and that he will run a Lola. They are considering a second driver, but he will be in a Reynard for now due to lack of Lola chassis availability if they can secure the financing.

Technically, what good would it do any team from running two cars, two chassis? It's a shame that they have to do this, it essentially takes away much of the benefit gained from running a two-car team. It won't do the team, or either driver, very much good.

They said that since they ran the Reynard last year, and worked on it over the winter, that they could at least temporarily run it until Uncle Carl has a few more Lolas to sell.

Well, they did not call him Uncle Carl, but you get the idea!
