Two Seater South African Grand Prix
Hey there guys.
Just got an email from a friend back home telling me about this. I understand there to be a practice session in July some time and a race of sort in August? I have done a search on the net but cant find too much about it. Also a link I have is not working here at work? Does anyone know more about this? And do you guys think this will be any good? Has it been done before? Also does this link work? LINK Cheers! |

Yep, Cougar, the link works. I didn't know anything about the race though. Sounds great!

They do this at Donington as well don't they?
Hope it works out then maybe we'll be looking at a return for F1 to SA too. |

Thanks DriverT, works internet is dead slow this morning!
The email that I have has a bit more information, I will try and find the source. It quotes prices as R50-80 for practice (thats less than £5) and R160-380 for the race day. How many cars would there be? I take it these would be minardi's? To have a race you'd need more than one? If Paul Stoddart is batteling in Formula one? How can he afford to have these cars as well? |

Stoddart has a fleet of these things,at least half a dozen anyway. As has already been mentioned they did a race at Donington Park last year, and a series supporting the F1 circus was proposed but seems to have died.Might work at Kyalami where they have not seen anything more exciting than a Formula Ford for about 10 years!

Just digging this up again ...
This happens on on August 7, 8 and 9. "The line-up currently includes Johnny Herbert, Marc Gene, Nicolas Kiesa, Gianmaria Bruni, and Bas Leinders, as well as up-and-coming South African F3000 racer, Alan van der Merwe." Plus ofcource Irvine and Wurz! Will anyone be going there? |

Sadly not - although it sounds like it'll be a good one.

Pity they can't also get the Mclaren 2 seater and the 2x Arrows 3 seaters (now known as Ascaris I believe) out, too

Kyalami has had F1 tests up until a few years ago as well.
Also SA has some great racing formula! Doesnt always have to be fast and noisy to be exciting!! |

Sadly F/GTI is on the decline - it rivaled F/Renault in the UK and produced some very good drivers.
