Watkins Glen undergoing $4.5 million in upgrades

NASCAR.com has an article on the changes being done to the Glen:

Quote:
When Helio Castroneves drove Watkins Glen International for the first time in October, he said the track's trademark blue guardrail would have to be moved in several key places to improve safety for the inaugural IRL race.

Now, that's going to happen.

Glad to see the big investment in this historic track. It will not only help secure their future, but also the future of open wheel racing there. Let's hope the race is a successful one.

Hmmm, maybe F1 will take a second look at The Glen again...

No way F1 can go there again - the cars are way too fast for the track and there is not sufficient room to build the runoff areas necessary.

Not that I wouldn't enjoy seeing that happen though!

John, I know that F1 cars will be faster than the IndyCars on road courses, but don't you think that if The Glen is brought up to standards for IndyCars, that that should be good enough for F1 cars?

I just don't see the speed difference being that great that the two couldn't be safe on the same tracks, but I could be wrong...

The way I see it, if it's safe enough for Indy cars then it's safe enough for Formula one cars.

Don't mean to go slightly off topic but look at Montreal, the run off areas are not large.
Yet F1 and Champ Car race there.
