1960/70s Sports Racing Cars
To accompany the 1970s 2-litre sports thread, how about some of the other Long distance sports cars from Groups 4, 5 & 6? This period gave us some of the most beautiful race cars ever built.
See what I mean? The start of the 1969 BOAC 1000 at Brands with Amon's Ferrari at the front. |

Here a very rare one , the Willment BRM, looking like a pick-up in 1968. This car was also raced by Hans Hermann some time earlier.

Re nothing. This is just such a sexy shot. Actually, it's Bobby Rayhal in 935 of course, practice at Silverstone. Probably 1990 but I need to dig deeper to check the date. And Rayhall was super quick in those conditions.
Bravo the marshals as usual. How do you spell Rayhal? |

Yes absolutely - 1980. Nice pic though. He was on it, absolutely everyone worried for him. But the 935 was dead driveable. Battleship.

From the Group 4&6 race at Oulton in April 68, Tony Dean leads Dibley, Bradley, Hawkins, Lepp and Prophet. Nice sunny day.

Brian Redman won the race in Sid Taylor's T70. I loaned the photo from my album to someone who was writing a T70 history which never materialised, and neither was the photo returned. The negs from this race have gone missing too, so no Redman, but here are Paul Hawkins in a none too pretty GT40 leading David Piper's gorgeous P4. The P4 is my all-time favourite too.

Can someone tell me why the posted images come out darker than the originals, or is it just me?
Here's Hugh Dibley in the Howmet turbine. Whenever the great American race photographer Dave Friedman (author of Can-Am and Shelby books among others) captions a pic of Dibley he refers to him as 'Hugh PK Dibley'. IIRC he was a BOAC pilot. He also flew in cars, most notably at Mosport in 66. |
