Should Jaguar make a diesel car?
No rant or rave to try put the different sides across, but a simple question.
(the X-Type and S-Type at least soon will have diesel options) |

With diesel sales in France, Germany, etc., running at something like 60% of total car sales, they can't afford not to.

Of course they should! It's about time someone built a full on diesel sportscar!

And Ferrari does make estate cars to order (well, their coachmakers do). The Sultan of Brunei has several 456 Shooting Breaks.
But yes, Jaguar should make a diesel. The new breed of deisel engines are just fab. Sure, the VW Tuareg got slated on Tog Gear the other week, but what an engine.... |

Already does - the X-Type (though most are 4WD).

The question should be: Should anyone make a diesel car?
I have few goals in life, but one of them is to never own a diesel automobile. So far, so good. |

Five years ago I would have agreed, but these days most diesels are of such high standard plus are massively powerful.

I might change my mind about diesels if someone can assure me that:
1. They are as quiet as gasoline powered engines. 2. They can be made to run as clean. 3. Their power/torque to weight ratios are acceptable. 4. They will start and run in very low temperatures that tend to gel most diesel fuels. 5. They are fun to drive. |
