thruxton sold

I wonder when the monopolies and merger comm will start to check out octagon buying every curcuit in the country ,cutting out the need for people to be able to go on track days?,(unless run by them at a cost)I have been informed that they are now buying thruxton.

Octagon are now becoming big players in British circuit ownership . I just wish they would buy Lydden Hill circuit , and manage to keep it open for years to come .

I wish someone would buy Lydden Hill and build a decent circuit.

There's nothing about it on the BARC website either Andy.

I knew that but do they have any control?

Doninton was mentioned as a possible venue for the British GP when Brands got the rights a few years ago in case Brands planned development didnt get the nod. Also WSBK have moved from Donny to Silverstone.

Just wondering really.

No control... at all. it's owned by Tom Wheatcroft. and they have no influence.

Similar to Combe, Pembrey, Mallory, lydden and Thruxton

Tom Wheatcroft, or one of his companies, own the freehold of Donington Park, but the circuit is operated and promoted by the "SFX" group on a long term lease.

SFX hold the rights to the world superbike series, as well has having interests in stadi and event management throughout the world, but particuarly in the usa.

SFX run Donnington , even though Tom Wheatcroft still owns it , in the same way as Octagon run Silverstone , yet it is still owned by the BRDC.

Stephen, you were correct,Octagon do own the rights to World Superbikes.

In my defence I can only plead that I'm not a bike racing fan and I confused two major companies in the sports rights market!

I'll spend the weekend reading the FT as penance!!!

Interpublic is Octagon's ultimate parent company.

seriously if Thruxton was sold to Octagon it would be very bad for motorsport in the uk with 5 major circuits under the control of one company, however if the financial situation of the BARC is so bad as the sale of the circuit is the only way for it to survive, it could be considered the lesser of two evils.

might also be good for the spectator , as with the super dooper season ticket octagon offered this year , spectators would get into thruxton as well for free , along with Brands , Oulton , Cadwell , and Snetterton .

Personally , maybe it would be better if Octagon sorted out the circuits that they've already got before buying into another .
