2017 Historic Race Meetings, dates, club calendars....

Here we go again..... With two major organisers having announced their calendars, and some other dates released, time to start listing all we know so that the HRT Calendar can follow on in due course.

PETER AUTO RACE MEETINGS...... (Not including Tours etc)

31 Mar - 02 Apr. Jarama Classic

19 - 21 May. Spa Classic

9 - 11 June. GP de L'Age D' Or (Dijon Prenois)

30 Jun - 02 July. Monza Historic

29 Sep - 01 Oct. Hungaroring Classic

20 - 22 Oct. Dix Mille Tours ( Le Castellet)

MASTERS RACE MEETINGS...... (Including those where they are an invited organiser)

08/09 Apr. Espritu de Montjuic (Barcelona)

27/28 May. Brands Hatch (GP) Historic Festival

30 Jun - 02 July. GP de France Historique (Magny Cours)

21 - 23 July. Silverstone Classic

11 - 13 Aug. Oldtimer GP (Nurburgring)

01 - 03 Sep. Zandvoort Historic GP

15 - 17 Sep. Spa '6 hrs'

21 - 22 Oct. Estoril Classic

I think it's certain from another thread that Pau Historique is to be held on 26 - 28 May, clashing with Brands Festival and sandwiched between Spa and Dijon events.....

And it was announced at the recent Algarve Festival that the 2017 date would be 27 - 29 October, so the month already has back to back meetings (that could work for some- Estoril followed by Portimao) and a European clash with Le Castellet and Estoril on same w/ends. (That won't work for anyone.)

Good to see organisers are working together to attract customers......

You mean like the International Motorsport Show,London cunningly clashes with Race Retro at Stoneleigh. Can't be good for either so we'll go to neither!

Yup, that does seem a strange clash. Makes one wonder if there is an ulterior motive! I believe the London Show is an add-on to a classic car show already on the calendar?

Sneaky! Thanks, Rudolf. We'll just have to emphasise that it's tentative / provisional.

Looking at Masters calendar, it clicked that they're not holding their usual meeting at Donington in 2017. There is rumour that another Organiser will not be supporting the early May Historic Festival, either. Will be interesting to see what grids are there when all comes out of the woodwork......

Currently they are pitched at different markets and Motor Sport has thrown its weight behind RR. Still, it is difficult to see how the tow can exist on the same weekend. I'm old enough to remember when Haymarket set up a rival show to the Racing Car Show, and look what happened there!

Here we go.....

April 8 Donington

Mai 20-21 Silverstone Inter

June 17-18 Cadwell Park

July 1-2 Brands Hatch Legends (formerly known as Superprix)

July 22-23 Silverstone Classic

August 5-6 Croft

August 26-28 Oulton Park

September 22-23 Brands Hatch Indy

October 14-15 Silverstone Finals

good old reliable HSCC, no real surprises in it, which is good
no season opener in Kyalami, no summer spree to Sepang either

as said before, this is tentative
Bernie might shake it up if he screws with British GP date in any way

Thank you Rudolf.

Nothing contentious with dates, as you say, basically the same as usual for most meetings. No Combe, Thruxton or Easter weekend races (14-17 April next year) and no Snetterton 'Autosport' meeting in June. End of the 3hr? No mention of Donington Festival either- but maybe as they usually only run the track activities at that event?

Kyalami would be nice!

what i just realised
these are an excerpt of the planned HFF dates with the HSCC
there could be other HSCC races on the calendar without HFF
which would not be on this list

so what is on it highly likely will happen
what is not, still can

I doubt there would be any HSCC meeting without HFF, their most popular series. The Snetterton meeting has been in question for some time owing to (relatively) low entries. A shame. Good to see Donington back on the schedule.

No clash between Brands Indy and Spa 6 hours this time. Am I right in thinking the Spa 6 hours is now being run a bit earlier in September over the last few years? Seem to recall it always used to be late September or even October.

Hopefully the 3hr won't die completely! Maybe that meeting needs 're-inventing'.

Spa 6 has always been, since I've been racing (2007 on), w/end after Revival. That seems bit earlier than used to be. Sure someone who's association goes back further will know....

Don't write off HSCC Snetterton completely yet, but even if it goes ahead, not sure the 3 hours will be 3 hours, if you see what I mean. Mike you may have 'hit the nail'.

VSCC , I think are just finalising their dates.

BDC, Silverstone - 5th August

Castle Combe Autumn Classic - 7th October

Like Rudi, I loved the old Snetterton layout, and would not miss it. 3 years ago, I did the HSCC Snetterton on the '300' layout and loathed it. I have not been back since, and will not in the future.

Whether accurate or not, I was told that the new layout was designed with modern open-wheeler cars and championships in mind and everyone else could like it or leave it.

I left.

Whatever happened to the Easter revival meeting at Thruxton? It was heralded a few years back as being the great comeback for historic F2 with the Jochen Rindt trophy but never materialised into anything much at all. Great shame that there's no early spring meeting again next year even if it's always freezing!

I think that meeting was slowly building up into something, the longer it ran
traditional track
traditional date
traditional meeting

and just when we had all gotten used to it and reserved the slot in our diaries...
meaning well
the HSCC did not do it because they had their aniversary and wanted to go to Castle Combe where they had their first meeting

and that seems to have killed the Thruxton meeting
at least for now

as i said, well meant
and usually the HSCC are clever and stick to established formats

mind you
the Easter date was not without problems
some wives did not like the idea of their husband going racing over Easter instead of hunting eggs with the brats

If you look back 50 or 60 years, Easter race meetings were huge, a real 'season starter' for circuits, promoters, competitors and spectators.

Maybe the fact that the Religious holiday bounces about the months of March and April is a factor for organisers?

But as RE says, maybe the huge commercialisation of Easter and lure of hunting chocco bunnies with the ankle biters has changed the holiday for ever.

As for the weather, I've never been so cold in a racing car as I was during that Thruxton Revival (think Avatar pic was from there), but Jarama late March, Goodwood mid / late March are just as bad! If I had my way it would all start when the thermometer is firmly settled on 20 C plus......

Thruxton Easter Revival, 2013 .... it was -5C when I arrived in the Paddock on the Sunday morning, so cold that it froze the (admittedly 20 yr old cr*p US respray) paint off my Chevy, somewhat to the distress of the cars following me in a cloud of paint flakes.

After equally cold Donington in mid-March, I too would support a minimum temp threshold !

Goodwood Revival is a week earlier next year, meaning a two-week break to Spa, but now clashing with Chantilly, which probably doesn't bother the racers but for those of us with wider automotive interests...

Mmm, according to what we've got so far, Revival is 8-10 Sept, Spa 6hrs 15-17 Sept. I originally though Spa was a week later than that, and was working on logistics of going straight from there to Hungaroring! If the dates quoted are correct then life will be a little bit easier......

BTW Goodwood Members Meeting is March 18 / 19th. Brrr.

Now for the confusion! I've had two 2017 calendars from Masters so far. The first one, received on 4 Nov, says Spa is 22-24 Sept. The second one received on 7 Nov says Spa is 15-17 Sept. I hadn't noticed the change.
