Idea!
a race event held every year or 2 where the only rules are that the cars have to be completely road legal?

legal on which roads?
and you might aswell let them change the exhaust for a bit of noise. gotta put a roll cage in, too,for safety... so we might aswell let them put in a proper fixed back seat and harnesses too. and semi slick tyres would be good too, because technically they're legal.. ah hang on, this is kinda getting out of control! |

You'd need a fire extinguisher system too. As mentioned before, there are some classes with cars that are road legal, but from a marshalling point of view, I would not go near a load of cars racing without the full safety kit.

There are classes for bog standard road cars every week in hillclimbs..
