I hoep nobody gets offended by this, but that is the stupidist reason ever in the history of the universe to put off a race meeting.
What, do they hold the markets on race track? Now i know Bernie, and he is rather powerful and nasty, couldnt he get his way for one weekend a year..? ONce again it is time for a nap... |

Forces higher than Bernie 'n' Max...
This from F1 News yesterday:
quote:
When the Catholic Church, and not Bernie Ecclestone, decides the date of the Monaco Grand Prix, you know the venue is special. And it is. No practice on Friday (it's Thursday instead) because of the opening hours of the local market.

What can one say?! |

Crash, its my understanding that there aren't many roads in Monaco, and that most of them are used for the race-of course they are holding market on the race track-there isn't anywhere else to hold it!

They're holding the GP in the market place (or the market on the GP track, perhaps)because Monaco is so bloody small there's nowhere else to hold it!!!
All available land has buildings (or the golf course) on it, so any public even has to take place on the road, be that a motor race, a market or whatever... And Bernie's only seventy isn't he? The Pope is what, 80ish, so Bernie's got lots of time yet to retire, spend a bit of his money on enhoying himself, then become Pope in a few years time... |

Knowing Berbie he would buy his way into the job of being pope cheaply, then make a very profitable concern before selling it off to the muppets for mega bucks...

I was under the impression that practice and qualifying is suspended on Fridays because it is Ascension Day. The Monaco GP is always held on the weekend of Ascension Day.
