i have been wondering where nascar wants to go with that wing...vs. the old spoiler i mean
I don't see why they have to get so dramatic with the shape, just add a spoiler to the roof and freez the templates now...or mandate factory sheet metal/plastic fascias on the tube frame racers...

Flyingduck:

a NAS-car, nascar is basically a silhouette formula, teams/manufacturers put their "face" on the cars and their engines.

basically if a car looks like a ford fusion, and runs a ford engine it's a fusion, same with chev & dodge, but they all run the same bodies and chassis.

Actually its much better looking than the current NASCARs. I'd be more interested in following NASCAR if the cars were better looking (and had varied shapes).

And if the commentary was done by Channel 10.

Edit: also, there is a CAT car in NASCAR atm which looks a bit like the FPR car. Maybe that paint scheme is from that team.

The inequality of makes in NEXTEL is amazing ...37 CHEVS, 18 DODGES YET ONLY 9 FORDS ?
4:1 CHEV TO FORD thats unfair to FOMOCO

Funny to see Marcos the only foreigner against ALL those good 'ol boys

The truck 2005 champ has gone to TOYOTA TUNDRA for 2006 !

kmsport has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I wonder why V8SC wouldn't adopt the roof flap that pops open in the event of an accident?

Now where did I put that flame-proof suit? Ah, here, under the fact that the yanks must have realised that even when the cars are the same, calling a car a Ford makes it suck! Gotta remember not to come back to this thread, in this heat I could spontaneously combust with what I am no doubt about to cop....

Well they're not starved for aero like the NASCARs are.

I don't think the roof flap is an escape hatch. I think it is there for pressure equalisation or some damn thing because of the high speeds they travel - and crash - at.
Does anyone know exactly why they have those flaps? Is it to slow them down in a crash or what?

NASCAR mandated the roof flaps as they found that with the shapes of the cars, at certain angles of attack, they became lift generating bodies, and literally lifted off. This wasn't acceptable saftey wise, as it removed the cars ability to be controlled by the driver, and increased the likelyhood of a serious accident.

The roof 'escape hatch' is separate from the mandated roof flaps Datto described. I don't think they're mandatory, and I don't think all cars have them. IIRC Michael Waltrip is the only driver to have 'escaped' via through the roof after crashing.

The mandated roof flaps only kick in if the cars going backwards and it's to help prevent the car lifting off the ground when going backwards at warp speed.
